We caught up with the brilliant and insightful EvoDidIt a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
EvoDidIt , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I’ve been singing since I was a kid, however, I would learn to hone what I could do naturally by emulating my favorite artist. Practicing their tone, runs or choreography.
I think timing is everything I wouldn’t want to speed up the process, appreciating the journey and the lessons that come with it is very important.
The biggest obstacle I would say was and is not being discouraged by things not going your way along the journey.
EvoDidIt , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Well, I am a singer and recording artist out of Dallas. I started out writing hooks for local artist in the area and finally I wanted to do it for myself. So I then started working on my own music writing, arranging and releasing projects and EPs. All of my music is rooted in R&B but I don’t box myself in I consider myself to be pretty eclectic when it comes to my music.
When I am not writing or recording for my own personal projects I still write for others, collaborate, do features etc.
What I think sets me apart from others is the same thing that sets us all apart from each other. No one person is the same, we all bring something unique to the table in music. I can also say that I love music I love to experiment with sounds and I want to stay authentic to myself when I create, it has to feel right.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I feel that the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is just being able to express yourself creatively and having other people connect to your message. It still blows my mind when a person that I’ve never even spoken to identifies with a song, or they can relate to my lyrics. Its a great feeling.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I don’t have a story, but I will say as an artist you have to be resilient there are so many ups and downs. Even though you love what you are doing things can get tough and you have pick your self up and bounce back. Hell, that’s in anything you do, not just music.
