We recently connected with Evie Anglero and have shared our conversation below.
Evie, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
I Started from absolutely nothing, I had no technical knowledge of how to build or run a website or how to sell products online. I had to research everything step by step as I built up my business. Everyday I gave myself a new task; one day I’d research what websites to host on, another day I’d figure out how to get products and so on and so forth until I had my very own shopify store with all my products listed for sale.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I always had an interest in beauty and even went to cosmetology school in my early 20s. I never had the opportunity to work in the beauty industry, but I remained passionate about it for well over a decade until I decided to pursue selling my own products online. I love the feeling that having a nice set of nails gives you as a woman and how feminine it always makes me feel to have my nails done nut i always hated sitting in a salon for hours, paying way too much money and leaving with subpar results. When I first started my business no one was really doing what I was doing. Offering custom nails was something only celebrities got to indulge in. Then the pandemic happened, and it made sense for a lot of women to reach out to me to make their custom press on nails designs to still feel pretty even if we were all just at home. What sets my brand Kawaii Klub apart from other press on nail companies is that I’m not afraid to make really wild designs and try fun new trends that you only see in Japan or editorials in a magazine. I can make every day friendly designs for the regular gal, but I enjoy the wild charms and accessories you usually only see influencers wearing on Instagram.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Instagram has really been the place I showcase my designs from the beginning and where most people follow and connect with me.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
The story of how I funded my business is a wild and unexpected one. I was an exotic dancer before the pandemic, and I knew I didn’t want to be in that industry. So, I used all my savings at the time which was about $10,000 to buy products and I started my business. It was a huge gamble because I didn’t know anything about running a business, much less if anyone would buy anything from me. I had a small community online at the time and luckily enough people did support my venture! I was never happier than in those beginning days when I’d get a few orders a day.
