We were lucky to catch up with Evgeniia Darland recently and have shared our conversation below.
Evgeniia , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
It takes a lot being successful..hard work ..stable health and of course you have to love what you do.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Im a full time tattoo artist, working by appointment only at private studio. i had long path to get where I am right now ..finished architect degree in Russia, learned tattooing in small shop ..economy was really bad at that time , so i moved on and worked other jobs . Moved to United states in 2015, was absolutely lost on what I want to do ..had few retail jobs, worked as medical interpreter for russian speaking citizens.
I really missed doing art ..my passion in fine arts was around my whole life, tattooing seemed easiest way to make money for living . I don’t consider myself as tattoo artist , tattoer ..im just at artist, tattoo machine is another tool.
i got back to tattooing in 2018 at a walk-in shop Greywash Ink, finding out my mom was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer was my biggest motivation to get back on track and be as good as possible quick. Im proud of myself for not giving up from difficulties on that “second chance” jorney.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy was just doing good work and be nice to my people…suggesting design ideas, helping them to see what will look best.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
i had to unlearn being shy ..it sounds funny, but often tattoo artists are afraid to suggest what will look the best on their body and fall through with exactly what client wants ..sometimes they have good point , but if you are confident experienced professional, you have to put your opinion on top (nicely😅)
