Everritt, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
I hope my legacy will be rememberable, someone that put his all into everything he did. whether it’s the quality of my work or the great relationships that I have build over the years. being a wonderful and genuine person is what I strive to be. working with new model, also giving helpful advice and being someone anyone could talk to. hopefully my legacy would those things when someone mentions my name.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
well I started with photography about 10 years ago, when I was climbing leader in the music industry. my brother was a local music artist in Kansas City and really needed a photographer and videographer, so I stepped in because we wanted to save money at the time and paying someone else wasn’t an option. so we went on the road, travel did shows, I was behind the camera,]. at time I didn’t love it, I was just trying to be there for my brother. fast forward to 2018 my brother suddenly passed unexpectedly and my world was lost, I was so comfortable behind the scenes for him his career, I was a very shy person and wasn’t a people person at all. 2021 I started dabbling with this new camera I had purchase for my son’s baseball game, not know I would do this professionally, started studying and doing research everyday, I was mad man when it came to information. my kids started complaining ‘Dad you are watching another YouTube video” lol. so I took a lot of family photos and videos, then eventually went to a photo meetup, met some wonderful people and been hooked ever since, I love working with models and capturing wonderful moments whether it’s family or friends, I love every minute of it. creating, taking photos, meeting new models, event fashion shows, editing process, turning a regular into magic.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Funding your business is very important, I’m a photographer. so the first thing I out with was a camera, believe not I didn’t know my camera at all, wasn’t even thinking of turning taking pictures a business, but when I did, I knew I had to first become at least little good at it, so perfecting your craft is Important, because you want to be confident in the services you are offering a client, having a vision and goals to work towards, networking is key, getting out your comfort zone, also going places. one thing is I try to work with everyone, and anyone, don’t limit yourself. listen to client, be caring and understanding. making your client or model comfortable. next it’s lenses, they are important and also can be very expensive, over time you can go all out, but start off small and inexpensive, until your start really making some money, I see it all the time a new photographer with all new expensive gear and don’t know how to use it or take great photos, I started out with a $250 lens, and was killing the game, because I took time and studied my craft and learn everything about my camera, the last thing I would say is have a strong social media presents, you can reach so many clients and they can also see your work, I met a lot of my client through social media.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
what I had to unlearn was thinking I needed the top gear to be success in this business. wanted to have the $1000s of dollars lens, and cameras and lights. that’s to have but there’s different photography styles that doesn’t require all of that, you have to find what style you are interested an start off slow and work your way up little by little. quick story when I was starting out I went to this photography store not knowing everything I’m needing the process, so talk to store clerk, and he talked me into purchasing a camera trigger I had never heard of or needed, come to find out after I had bought it, found out it only works with one brand game light that wasn’t even and only had one light to choose from, all sales finally smh. moral of the story do your research folks lol.
