We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Evelyn & Ryan Frankel. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Evelyn & Ryan below.
Evelyn & Ryan , appreciate you joining us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
Opening a business always comes with risks, especially one with a stigma like selling secondhand clothes—particularly in a city known for luxury and high-end fashion. But as the saying goes, ‘You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take,’ and success often requires taking calculated risks.
When we decided to launch our first retail venture, we knew it would take hard work and perseverance to break into the market. We started small, opening in a warehouse district to keep overhead low while we tested the waters. That decision paid off, and before long, we expanded to a mall location, further proving our concept’s viability. Our journey has since led us to Little River, where we’ve established Mids Market—a testament to our belief in sustainable fashion and making secondhand clothing accessible and trendy for everyone.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Mids Market, located in Little River, Miami, redefines the traditional thrift store experience with its expansive 12,000 sq. ft. retail-style space. Whether you’re a first-time thrifter or a seasoned shopper, Mids Market offers a variety of items to suit every style and budget. Shoppers can explore curated bins of handpicked, categorized clothing priced at $6, $9, and $12, alongside specialty vintage racks featuring unique pieces priced between $35 and $100.
The space also offers unique experiences, including over 10,000 second-hand vinyl records for sale, a cozy listening lounge, a reworking station for quick clothing alterations, and a natural products section stocked with clean, ingredient-based items.
More than just a retail destination, Mids Market is a community hub. Mids Market is designed to promote sustainability and community engagement through secondhand fashion.
Ryan and I are passionate about making wearing secondhand fashion a normal occurrence for all people.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Adaptability is one of our strongest assets. If you’ve followed our brand, you know we’re not afraid to shake things up. When things don’t work, we pivot—and we pivot fast! A great example is when we launched a Vintage Grail store, exclusively selling rare and high-end vintage pieces. Within the first month, we realized the market wasn’t willing to spend $100 on a single shirt. We quickly adjusted our model, shifting our focus to offering more affordable, accessible clothing that caters to the everyday shopper. This ability to listen, learn, and evolve has been critical to our growth and success

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
Ten years ago, Ryan and I met on a dating app, and while we were both independent, ambitious, and entrepreneurial at heart, we were opposites in many ways. Our shared drive for life drew us closer, and before long, we were not only in love but also working together as business partners. I’ve always admired Ryan’s vision and work ethic—he’s the dreamer, the one with the big ideas, while I’m the executor who brings those ideas to life. Together, we make a really sweet team. I feel incredibly fortunate to have found not just my life partner, but my business companion as well.
