We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Evelyn Malveau-sanders. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Evelyn below.
Evelyn, appreciate you joining us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
What does it take to be successful? Success holds many definitions… success could mean financial wealth. Success could mean educational gain. Or achieving whatever your heart desires. All success takes is guts!
You have to be willing to sacrifice to be successful. Whether that sacrifice is old habits, negative feelings, or people who don’t grow with you.
You have to be willing to be strong to be successful. All days are not skipping through the flower filled meadows. Some days are dark and cloudy while you climb the edges of those mountains to make it to the top; then realizing there’s another valley to cross over to climb the next mountain! You have to work hard, be kind and courageous to stay strong.
You have to be willing to take no for an answer; also realize not every door that opens is an opportunity for YOU.
You have to be willing to make decisions. But remember , not all decisions are going to be good decisions. You have to rely on your intuition to make the BEST decision for you and your family.
To be successful is many things and more. What it takes to be successful is trusting that your heart, mind, and soul agree with what challenges you are willing to take on next.

Evelyn, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My husband and I have worked hard for other people/companies for a long time. We’ve given much time and energy doing things we liked but didn’t truly have our whole hearts into. Starting Major Nostalgia was a game changer; for our entrepreneurial mind set and our daily lives. We provide vintage video games, memorabilia, collectible items, and vintage/retro clothing.
We are working towards broadening our social media. Posting everyday is another challenge we face while juggling taking care of our children, working part time and continuing to build Major Nostalgia as a whole.
What sets our company apart from our competitors is how personable we get with our customers. we get several repeats due to our open line of communication and honesty. Any good relationship works wonders when having great communication. For example, if an item has an issue? The customer will contact our line; We are completely honest with the situation and are able to solve the problem within 24 hours of contact. Another example, we give customers great deals. The major nostalgia team loves a happy customer; and are willing to go above and beyond to make sure their product needs are met to the best of our ability.
Everyday isn’t Sunday or easygoing. Owning a business on most days feels like an endless Monday. Though what makes us proud is what we’ve started is sustaining well. We have our challenges from time to time. Though Within the same breath, we wouldn’t change a thing for the world

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
During this year of 2024, my husband and I were pregnant with our second child. The only difference between this pregnancy and our first one was, our second baby was born 3 months early. Baby was a long term patient in the Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery in the hospital. This marked a large mountain in our daily lives and our business. Though the love for our baby was stronger than any other love we had for anything during that time. For several months we had to step back from Major Nostalgia so we could tend to our newborn baby and care for our oldest child simultaneously. It caused a major setback in business.
Although, we continued to push through all the challenges and metaphorically stormy weathers; We now have a wonderful, beautiful, healthy blessing in our lives. We are able to share our testimony and experiences while working from home and build on Major Nostalgia.

How’d you meet your business partner?
I’m so excited to publicly share of how I met my husband/ business partner. He’s going to be indifferent with me because I picked this story to share. HA! alright…
When Facebook first started FB dating, I would scroll through the men available liking or disliking their photos. I saw this young man and thought to myself, “why would you take a photo like this? I have to see what’s going on with this fellow” (He looked like somebody 50 year old uncle). His profile said single, 27years old, and profession: diesel technician. I swiped like. So a few days pass, and we matched! This young man sent me a message commenting on one of my photos on the dating category for Facebook and you’ll never guess what it said!? “I really like this photo of you.”
Honey, my heart melted. It was the most simple, straightforward, down to earth compliment that I have ever received in my online dating experience! I just HAD to find out more about this guy. I replied thank you and sent my phone number. We chatted for a few days and I invited him to come visit me where I was staying. The rest of the story gets even better; but to make it short, that’s how we met. 6 years into our relationship, we struggled, we lived different places, we got married, we had beautiful babies, and we built a business. Major Nostalgia is our growing baby to this day.
