We recently connected with Evelyn Gonzalez and have shared our conversation below.
Evelyn, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Often outsiders look at a successful business and think it became a success overnight. Even media and especially movies love to gloss over nitty, gritty details that went into that middle phase of your business – after you started but before you got to where you are today. In our experience, overnight success is usually the result of years of hard work laying the foundation for success, but unfortunately, it’s exactly this part of the story that most of the media ignores. Can you talk to us about your scaling up story – what are some of the nitty, gritty details folks should know about?
It has been a quite a ride for me to be in the postion of where I am at now in my career as a makeup and hairstylist. I have come across a lot of bumps on the road and made a few mistakes as well. I questioned my self many times if this career was meant for me or was it me just being selfish and foolish in wanting to have a career as a makeup Artist and Hairstylist. having a full time career as a makeup artist and hairstylist does not come overnight. It takes a lot of work and dedication in polishing up your skills. One thing I did is continued my education took extra classes for hair and makeup. Learning from other makeup artist and hairstylist in the industry not only did they teach me something new it also boosted my confidence. Networking with other makeup artist and hairstylist supporting each other and staying humble. No matter where you are at in your career you always learn something new everyday from the artist who has been in this for more than 10 years to the artist who is just starting. You need to have tough skin working in this industry it’s a very competitive I industry. Know your worth and do it with confidence no one else does your craft exactly like you, everyone has their own unique way of doing there’s.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Evelyn Gonzalez I am a Makeup Artist and Hairstylist for 10 years and counting. I received my License as a cosmetologist in 2022. I am married and have 3 kids who I love so very much. I got into this industry because I love how I made others feel, I made them feel beautiful and look there best. what sets me apart from others i would say is my laugh however, i am also a very kind and loving person and I like to transmit that to my clients. I’m always trying to help others finding solutions getting things done and staying positive. I love being my own boss and having the flexibility with my time. Not only am I running my own business, booking my own clients, submitting content to my professional page etc. I’m also a mom running a house hold of 3 little ones who constantly need my attention and time. At times it gets though but then i remember the whole reason i started this career was for them so that i can have the flexibility and time for them as well. Time management is key ! I have been working really hard on my craft I love styling hair the most. I’m a makeup and hairstylist for all occasions weddings, engagement photoshoots, maternity photoshoots, quinceneras, you name it. The most requested hairstyle has been the Hollywood Glam waves. I’ve worked so hard to perfect these volumes waves. I am very proud of how good i have gotten on my hairstyles and the feed back that i get from my clients and other hairstylist and makeup artist is the best feeling. I am so thankful that God has given me this gift the gift to create beautiful hairstyles and helping others. I want to thank my family and friends for supporting me in my career and my lovely clients for trusting in me. I believe this is just the beginning of my career and I’m looking forward to see what the future holds for me.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best resource for new clients for me has been Instagram. Instagram has gotten the majority of my clients and word of mouth. Taking pictures and videos of my work and posting them on my business page.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I started to build my audience by sharing content on my business page. Content is so important as most clients like to see your work. Networking with other makeup artist and hairstylist. And collaborating with other artist as well.
