We were lucky to catch up with Evelyn Cucchiara recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Evelyn thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Covid has brought about so many changes – has your business model changed?
When Covid hit, I was forced to completely pivot. My business model is one where I go into peoples homes, provide a service, and then leave. When everything closed up, this was no longer possible. So I spent a few months creating an online DIY playroom organizing class. It’s not only kept me sane, it is enabled me to spread the Toy Taming word throughout the country, and the world! Now, even though I’m back in peoples homes, it provides a great place to refer people whose budget does not allow for me to come and do the work for them. Basically, it was a win-win.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I got into the playroom organizing business, because I absolutely love children. I feel we’re doing a disservice to them today, because we’re raising them and not teaching them how to do anything! Instead we’re waiting for a switch to flip when they turn 13 and suddenly they can run their own lives. But we’re not giving them anywhere to practice the skills they need. That’s where Toy Taming comes in. We put in the right system and storage units that empowers the kids to clean up on their own, room, rewarding them with immediate gratification. It also empowers them, teaches them executive functioning skills they need for life, and gives you a clean the playroom , all at the same time.
We’re pretty much the only business that not only organizes your playroom, we provide a system to keep it organized.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I get the majority of my business through social media. I find that my core customer spends most their time there, so that’s where I need to be also. I not only post reels and stories, I also share before and after pictures and do a lot with Facebook groups. This is where my customer hangs out. The important thing to know is where does your customer spend their social media time, and then that’s where you need to make sure you are being seen.
I’m happy to say that my presence is so big now that if anyone asks for help in organizing a playroom, people I don’t even know recommend The Toy Tamer. My niche is so precise, it makes it easy for people to refer me, and that’s exactly what you want to have happen .
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I keep in touch with my clients through monthly video emails that I send out. My business is unique and that I pretty much only see each customer once. So I constantly need to find new customers. As a result, I have to be very clear in my brand right down to what colors I wear, as well as being very clear with my message. Since peoples attention span is so short, you need to grab them right away so you need to say what makes you different and what problem you solve super fast. And I’m lucky to say that what I do is so unique, my customers always remember me. And then they refer me.
