Evelyn, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
As I reflect on my journey over the years, I appreciate the diverse experiences that have shaped me—both the triumphs and the challenges. Each setback has served as a stepping stone, and every success is a testament to my resilience. My hope is that when others think of me, they see someone who embodies strength and an unwavering spirit, always ready to face whatever comes my way.
Evelyn, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I want to share this: I was living in an environment of lack, fulfilling the expectations of motherhood and work. I held a job where I felt uneasy and unvalued, setting my ambitions aside. When I lost my job, fear struck, and I thought I needed to take any available position, but a part of me encouraged me to let go!
When I made the pivotal decision to fully embrace my creative career, it felt like the right choice, almost as though a weight had been lifted off my shoulders. It was as if I had finally stepped into my true self after years of trying to fit into molds that did not quite suit me.
However, I quickly realized that committing to a creative path came with its own set of challenges. In order to take that leap of faith, I had to unlearn certain ingrained beliefs and behaviors that had shaped my understanding of what a career should look like. I had to dismantle the fears of judgment and societal expectations that loomed over me, reminding myself that a traditional route was not the only pathway to fulfillment.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I’ve had many changes in my career, but one memorable experience was while working on the Bodega Makeover pilot. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, I lost some of my funding and faced almost a year of financial recovery. I initiated a crowdfunding project and put in a lot of effort to obtain discounts and contributions to kick off the renovations. This experience highlighted the significance of community and revealed the daily challenges faced by bodega owners. I developed a deeper admiration and respect for small business owners.
