We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Eve Cauley. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Eve below.
Hi Eve, thanks for joining us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
During my childhood, I spent A LOT of time drawing and doing various crafts. Through high school, I took any art elective I could and picked up cosplay as a hobby after graduating. So over the years, I learned a good amount of ways to be artsy! I learned a lot from my teachers, but honestly, YouTube was my best friend haha!
Being so actively crafty came with a negative after-effect, unfortunately. After being dedicated to my artistic side, I kind of went through a good solid 5 years of not simply drawing or painting. this took a massive dent in my artistic development and I genuinely wish if I could go back I would tell myself to slow down! Doing 8 different projects at once wasn’t what I needed, it was mastering the craft itself!
If I had to pick one skill to be most essential, it would be patience. I know that is more of a trait than a skill, but for someone very ambitious, it’s a skill I needed to practice for sure! Art takes time, especially slow-burning projects like crocheting and knitting!
When digital art started to become the next big thing, it took a huge amount of time to finally produce digital art. I was so stuck to my pencils and sketchbook that digital art didn’t feel natural. it took me a solid 3 years to finally get the hang of it!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Well Hi! I am Eve, the proud owner of Eve Pinnies Cozy Arts & Crafts! I create and sell an eclectic amount of things from digital art, fiber crafts, jewelry making, and more! I strive for a warm, cozy vibe, meaning I use lots of warm tones and plants!
I started Eve Pinnies because I’ve always had a love for creating! I kept making stuff that started to clutter my home so one day I posted about it on social media and boom Eve Pinnies was born!
As a proud artist of color, I made a goal of mine to insert Black and Asian elements into my work as well. From cute afro girls to Tagalog stickers, I intend to make sure myself is in my art. I’m also currently working on a secret Filipino sweet treat theme! but it’s a secret okay shh!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Honestly, I hate social media LOL! It’s so hard and complicated to grasp, so truly my main advice is to not worry about the numbers. your audience will grow with you! I’ve learned this the hard way through rough nights of wondering why my posts were slacking. FYI they weren’t slacking they were perfect in their own way! Keep posting, keep being you, and people will see that and will fall in love!
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
SHOP LOCAL, SHOP SMALL, SHOP POC!! I cannot scream that loud enough! Yes, you can buy that same item at a large corporation for 5 bucks OR you can support a local business that puts their whole heart into their work and strive to make the shopping experience unique! To me, that’s worth way more than 5 bucks. As an artist, I put my whole soul into making sure that everything is pleasant to the eye from my website, to packaging, to the product themselves, I even draw on my mailers before I send them out! I make sure that everything is so nice because I know how hard it is to make money and to know that someone is using their hard-earned cash on my art is enough for me to strive for the best.
