We recently connected with Evangeline Sarney and have shared our conversation below.
Evangeline, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about one of the craziest things you’ve experienced in your journey so far.
My career had quite a different launch pad than most. Think as untraditional as you can. At a young age I launched “Makeup Tips,” a humble beauty blog that soon blossomed into a community of 1.2 million eager followers seeking advice, inspiration, and the latest trends. One of the pivotal moments was my first-ever beauty event, hosted by Lancôme. Little did I know that this encounter would weave a crucial thread throughout my career. Fast forward several years, and life came full circle when I landed my first corporate role within the beauty sphere at Lancôme. . The trajectory of my career granted me the chance to relocate and immerse myself in the beauty industry in none other than the most (in my opinion) iconic city in the world — New York City—a place where innovation, creativity, and passion converge on a grand scale. Starting that blog opened doors I never knew existed and transformed my passion for makeup into a fulfilling career in a city I had always dreamed of.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I started my career with a lightbulb moment. Reading magazines and flipping straight to the beauty pages, I made the decision to start up a beauty blog called Makeup Tips. From here this led to opportunities to write for publications and be featured by the likes of Cosmopolitan magazine and collaborating with major beauty brands like Revlon, Covergirl, Estée Lauder.
From here, I packed my bags and headed from Australia to New York City. In New York I’ve carved a career path as a consultant specializing in content strategy and copywriting for beauty brands. I’ve been privileged to work as a consultant for brands like L’Oréal, Elizabeth Arden, and Glossier, while also managing my content production agency, Create & Make Up.
I specalize in brand storytelling, copywriting, content strategy, and content production primarily for beauty brands. My focus is on helping brands to connect and communicate with consumers through beautiful content and engaging copy that’s discoverable across social media and SEO.
I love producing a full scale photo shoot and creative directing all the visuals, from a copy side I love re-writing a large brands content to make it more consumer friendly facing.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
LinkedIn and referrals have proven to be the best ways to gain clients. I’ve established meaningful connections and fostered relationships that have translated into valuable partnerships and client opportunities. Additionally, referrals, stemming from clients and contacts, have been instrumental in expanding my client base.
Using SEO tactics across my LinkedIn and also securing domain names like thebeautycopywriters.com and beautycontentcreation.com has been helpful with discovery across people searching for the services I provide.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Growing a beauty blog to 1.2 million followers stemmed from my commitment to engaging with my audience, offering authentic advice, and consistently sharing original and valuable content. By actively interacting with readers, answering their questions, and providing genuine beauty tips, I fostered a community built on trust and loyalty. Staying true to honesty and integrity. Having dedication to authenticity, combined with a relentless focus on high-quality, informative content is the key to building a large social media audience. People want to see content that is inspiring, informative, and authentic.
