We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Evancia Baron. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Evancia below.
Hi Evancia, thanks for joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
The idea to launch my Life Coaching business didn’t happen overnight. It was birthed after an experience I had several years prior. Allow me to share the story…
Despite the heartache and challenges, I summoned the strength to reclaim control of my life and emerged stronger than ever before. I made a vow to myself that if I could help just one woman at a time who was going through a setback in life, I would help her find a way. That experience birthed the Bounce Back Coach.
My experiences did not only make me a strong woman, they made me a resilient one. I decided to become a Life Coach and created the Pursuit to Greatness Academy where I work with women who either feel stuck in life after a setback or need to jumpstart the life they want for themselves. I take them on a journey to create a new life action plan that will get them from where they are right now to where they need to be.
On this entrepreneurial venture, I admittedly started this business with limited knowledge of the life coaching profession. I embarked on a mission of discovery, seeking guidance from a seasoned life and business coach. I pursued certification on my quest to make a meaningful impact. Today I am a certified life Coach and Speaker.

Evancia, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m originally from a small island in the Caribbean called Dominica. I left my beautiful tropical island to pursue my big dreams by first getting a college education. I had hoped to be a CEO of a major company…that was my dream at the time. Moving to the United States of America was a huge step to getting closer to my dreams. I got an associates Degree in business administration, then a bachelors degree in Finance and Investment and then a masters Degree in Business management. I was paving my path towards my aspiration of becoming a CEO.
So after I experience the biggest setback in my life and bouncing back from it, I created a transformative 90-day journey tailored for women seeking to bounce back from life’s challenges.
This coaching program is specifically designed for women who have experienced a setback in life and are seeking to bounce back stronger than ever. Whether you have faced a career setback, a personal loss, a relationship disappointment, or any other challenge that has knocked you off course, this program is tailor-made to help you rediscover your strengths, set inspiring goals, and create a powerful action plan for your new life.
During the program, women will have the chance to work with me or other experts I deem to add value and empower women to achieve their goals. The program is geared to guiding individuals through times of transition, providing valuable insights, and helping them make significant breakthroughs.
Throughout the program, you will engage in meaningful reflection, goal-setting exercises, and skill-building activities. You will also receive personalized support, accountability, and guidance. Together, you will uncover your unique potential, explore new possibilities, and take concrete steps towards creating the life you desire.
I am most proud of the transformation that happens when clients get results. This is the reward for me.

Let’s move on to buying businesses – can you talk to us about your experience with business acquisitions?
The first business I ever bought was a travel business which was a Franchise. I did research on a few travel franchise business and landed on Cruise One which later changed to Dream Vacations.
At the time traveling was a passion of mine and I always wanted to work in areas that I am passionate in so that my work would not feel like work.
The first step after requesting more information was going through a webinar to learn about the business. After the application process, you get set up with a Franchise Development Specialist who walk you through the business and answer any questions you may have. During that introductory call you discuss your goals, your background, and why you are interested in the franchise.
You are also encouraged to reach out to other franchisees to get their feedback and experience with the business.
The franchise fee was around $10,000 which you have the option to finance part of it. At the time there were also certain discounts that you could take advantage of as well.
The application process, included a background check and credit check. Before going live with your website and selling travel you had to travel to Ft Lauderdale, Florida for one week of training.
It was an easy process because of the guidance of the Franchise Development Specialist who was assigned to me.
What I learned from this business is that franchises have a proven process to follow but you also have to put in the work to be successful. You still have to be able to follow Market trends and make decisions accordingly. This experience also contributed to my personal and professional growth.

We’d appreciate any insights you can share with us about selling a business.
Earlier I spoke about the franchise travel business that I bought in 2014, however that was the same business I sold in 2020 after the Covid 19 pandemic started.
This franchise business allowed me to own my own business in a fast-growing industry at the time with an already proven system from the comfort of my own home and doing what I love which was traveling and helping others create lasting memories through their travel adventures.
In order to be successful, you must be able to sell travel. Guess what? The pandemic hit the United States around March 2020 and there was a halt in traveling for the most part. People were afraid of the unknown and I was too.
The pandemic brought the international travel industry to halt. There was no potential income expected to come in but the monthly fees were expected to be paid to the franchise.
At the time my contract was coming due for a renewal so I had to make a decision to renew and continue paying monthly fees with no income due to the unknown effect the pandemic would have on the future of the travel industry.
I made a decision to sell at a total loss.
What I learned from this experience was that you have to make a decision on the hard facts and not on the emotions. Sometimes selling at a loss means protecting your assets and preventing an even bigger loss by holding on to a business that is not generating revenue with no idea on the future outcome because of the unknown.
