Alright, Evan thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s talk about innovation. What’s the most innovative thing you’ve done in your career?
As a general rule I have never been a risk taker but without risk there can be no innovation. It is abundantly clear that anything worth striving for takes a great deal of hard work, sacrifice and dedication. However, from my journey it’s become apparent that it also takes a great deal of risk! Inherently I have always looked at risk as a form of gambling to an extent. It’s that cliche “catch-22” that you have to leverage something of value, whether it be your career, livelihood, or feeling of being comfortable in exchange for something else that may or may not turn out like you envisioned, or could turn out to be better than your wildest dreams. As a kid, and over the early years of my career I always felt that I was more of a risk averse person. Unless I knew it was a for-sure thing, I’d shy away from it. This type of mindset has definitely changed for me and continues to evolve since I became an entrepreneur. 4 years ago, after working the previous 10 years in corporate America, I came to realize I was just not happy. I had reached what I thought “my goal/dream job” was within the company I had started my career with, and realized that it wasn’t what I had anticipated and more importantly that I just wasn’t happy anymore. At that point, I was confused, upset and anxious… not knowing what to do, or where to go. I had always had the dream of opening my own business and being an entrepreneur, but that dream seemed too scary, too big a risk. It was the scariest decision I had ever made, but I decided to take the risk and make the extremely difficult leap of faith to start my own business. Now years later, looking back on it…. it was without a doubt the best decision of my life. That journey and these past years of being in business has shown me that risk is a necessary part of any successful individual. Sometimes you have to risk what you have, and where you currently stand to reach the levels you have dreamed of and are destined for!
