We were lucky to catch up with Evan Renfroe recently and have shared our conversation below.
Evan, appreciate you joining us today. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
In my industry, there are two common approaches. 1 – Obsessively focus on the “SEO” and metrics side of marketing, and completely disregard the content.
2 – Focus exclusively on the “artistry” of the content and neglect the objective/goal.
We take a different approach!
We aim to combine the most important aspects of content creation and marketing for SMB’s, and really put both aspects to work in each piece of content we create!
We believe the content should speak to the business’s personality, style and brand while also serving the audience for whom it’s created!
At the end of the day, businesses are investing into a resource with the hopes of building their brand, growing their business and serving their audience, if what we’re creating doesn’t account for that, we’re missing an opportunity.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
So condense my life story, work experience and all the meaningful events that have played a role in getting me to the place I am today? Ok, Simple enough!!
Well… I stumbled my way into the world of content and media, coming off the end of a 10+ year career in fitness. My years of running my own fitness business provided a first hand look at the importance of marketing and branding (which is where my passion for those began).
Naturally, as I realized the importance of video in a content and marketing strategy, I began to learn everything I could about it, and it didn’t take long before I became quite interested in all things media!
I’ve always been a fan of storytelling, especially in a visual form, so it seemed like the merger of these aspects made perfect sense.
From knowing less than nothing about cameras and how they’re operated, to now, running a content marketing + video production business, I have learned a lot and continue to learn daily!
It’s an absolute privilege to be able to do something that I enjoy so deeply, and working with such incredible people and amazing businesses is a reward in itself.
We work with small to mid – sized businesses who are looking to take their business to the next level with content marketing! So many businesses are fantastic at the services they provide and offer some truly incredible products, but they struggle with being “known” and getting discovered.
We believe content is a massive tool to be leveraged for building a brand, creating rapport with prospective clients and customers as well as sharing the “humanized” side of business (since people do business with people).
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
There’s a lot of things about what we do that I find rewarding, and am immensely grateful to be privileged doing them. But atop that list, has to be, linking arms with truly amazing people who do fantastic work, learning more about their business and taking the time to bring that to life through creative content.
I think anyone who has access to nice camera equipment and a bit of knowledge for how to operate it, can capture some beautiful images.. But to take the time to combine the marketing and branding objectives with the artistry of creating engaging and captivating content, that’s where I find the most fulfillment.
And seeing it really help their business grow!!
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
There are many! But primarily, being able to work with great business owners and using the skillset I’ve acquired to help them reach and serve more people!
Great businesses solve problems and great business owners are pillars in their community.
They often give back, in both time and resources, so every small business we’re able to help grow, is then able to
1) help more people by serving their problems and needs and
2) help increase the capacity in which they’re able to give back to their community through increasing their resources and impact.
And it’s always great to meet more awesome people, doing fantastic work!
