Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Evan Ponter. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Evan, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I grew up in a small town in the coal region of Pennsylvania. If you weren’t pulling anthracite from the hills, you were breaking your back in the metal factories. If you weren’t doing either of these things, you were shooting guns in the military or shooting heroin in the Turkey Hill parking lot. I didn’t see myself reflected in any of these options, so I took the creative path. I got lost in books about faraway lands, distant pasts, and mythical beasts. I started writing in notebooks and filling pages with my own stories. I couldn’t yet take a red eye to the big city, but I could escape in my imagination. I remember how freeing that felt. I have been chasing that feeling ever since.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a creative director shaking things up in video production, creative marketing, and beyond. My journey kicked off in the wild streets of Los Angeles, where I soaked in every ounce of inspiration from film and TV. Whether it’s an indie horror flick that gets your heart racing or those nostalgic Nickelodeon cartoons that defined our childhoods, I’m all about capturing the culture and blasting it out to the world. Let’s make some noise and get our stories seen!
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
First off, we need to tear down the walls of conventional thinking and give the finger to those suffocating norms that stifle creativity. Throw cash at the wild ones. Fund their mad visions! Embrace the chaos and let art be the unapologetic voice of the disenchanted. If we don’t start feeding the starving artists, we’ll all be left drowning in a bland sea of AI generated mediocrity and corporate slop.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
To seize the means of content production. To smash through the apathy of this sanitized world with a sledgehammer of raw, unfiltered truth. I’m here to challenge the status quo and ignite a fire in the bellies of those who’ve been lulled into submission by the mundane hum of a social media obsessed society. Art is a weapon, and my mission is glorious rebellion! I want to make cool shit for a living. It’s as simple as that!
