We recently connected with Evan Ogden and have shared our conversation below.
Evan, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you recount a story of an unexpected problem you’ve faced along the way?
Being a creative and an artist is inherently choosing to live a life of isolation to some degree. Often times, you are mis-understood and cut against the grain. I have learned its important to lean into that diversity. It can be lonely, but to a degree it is re-assuring. No one can say exactly what you have to say. No one can speak the words you need to speak.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a country music singer/songwriter from Fort Worth, though I am originally from Austin. I have been writing songs and playing music for over a decade and am in the process of releasing my third record.=, Honky Tonk Man. In terms of services I provide. I try to express things that are honest and try to tell the truth to the best of my ability. I try to give folks a window to see into themselves. My music veers away from the commercial side largely. I have always found more inspiration in Guy Clark than say Garth Brooks. I still love the music and sing it often, but when I try to write, I am trying to express a truth as clear as I can see it.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
I rely heavily on the local scene to support my music. I am largely flying under the radar at this point. So my success is whole dependent on building a community that is durable and loyal. To support folks like me, going out to a show, buying merch, and telling your friends about my music is crucial. With a rapidly changing city, the live music scene is struggling to maintain its relevance and importance in Fort Worth and Texas culture. Going to a live show, buying a t-shirt or telling your friends about my music is much more beneficial than streaming my music.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal or mission used to be to have a successful, sustainable music career, but that has shifted. Now, my goal is to be as honest as I can and connect with listeners on a deep, intentional level.
