We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Evan Mcloughlin. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Evan below.
Evan, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
Way back when Liam, Marley, Austin and I were in highschool it was actually called Jelly Clothing which was a stoned gelatine on a plate with a angry face but that design was scrapped and it was Liam who changed it to Pyrite and started going with the prints of complete skate set ups with ribbons going around it! Since all of that we’ve come up with plenty of designs many of which have made it onto our store already and some that I still have in the process with many more still being thought of and different ways to release them as well.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
The 4 of us were insanely close when we were younger and were very inspired by a YouTube channel of skaters and it made us want to create something similar but different. We all skateboarded and branded us the Birdy Squad. Following that event Jelly was born shortly after to be scrapped and born a new as Pyrite. As kids in school with not a lot of knowledge buisness wise and other set backs Pyrite essentially fell to the backburner and almost forgotten about. After graduation the Birdy Sqaud genuinely took flight elsewhere. Liam had moved to Cali and Marley to the military leaving Austin and myself on the East Coast. Late of 2024 Liam and I were talking about Pyrite and memories we all had shared and how that passion was still there to create clothing for skaters and really everyone that wasn’t a statement just comfy and had a design you vibes with or just enjoyed ya know? The amount of designs we have now in 2025 is remarkable and keeps growing! Truly amazing to see how far this journey as brought us.

We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
Liam and I actually met in Math class of highschool and he was a grade below me. I won’t lie or sugar coat we did some of the dumbest stuff in that class from throwing money in the air to catch the air draft of the window to also rubbing smarties together to puffing it to make it look like smoke just being dumb kids. Marley lived down the road from me and Austin ended up moving two streets over a year later and then from there we all were locked together every day.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Personally when we filmed skate videos or quick lines I didn’t have the steady hand but as I grew older I fell more in love with a camera and what it was capable of and how edits could enhance from there. I always tell my nephew I take pictures not just cause I enjoy it but I can always go back to thay image and visually put myself in thay moment in time that I was able to capture and relive it. That’s what i find is most rewarding is the ability to capture a forever shot.
