Hi Evan, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?

Thank you for your thoughtful questions regarding my journey in the media world. It’s been quite the adventure, shaped in large part by my unique background as a military kid. Growing up in different places around the world instilled in me adaptability and a global perspective from an early age, qualities that have proven invaluable in my career.

Learning the ropes of broadcast journalism was a combination of formal education, hands-on experience, and relentless curiosity. I credit my time at Full Sail University for providing me with a solid foundation in media arts and entertainment. However, much of my learning came from immersing myself in various roles at organizations like ESPN, WWE, Afterbuzz Tv and Fanduel Tv. Each opportunity allowed me to refine my skills and gain invaluable insights into the industry.

Reflecting on my journey, I realize that one way to potentially speed up the learning process could have been to seek out more mentorship opportunities early on. Having someone to provide guidance and share their experiences could have helped me navigate certain challenges more efficiently.

In terms of essential skills, adaptability, storytelling prowess, and a keen eye for detail have been paramount in my career. The ability to adapt to different environments and storytelling formats has allowed me to thrive in diverse settings, from sports broadcasting to news reporting.

Of course, no journey is without its obstacles. For me, one of the biggest challenges was overcoming the imposter syndrome that often plagues newcomers in the industry. There were moments when self-doubt crept in, but I learned to push through by focusing on my strengths and staying true to my passion for storytelling.

As I embark on the next phase of my career, I’m excited to merge my passion for filmmaking with my journalistic expertise. I believe that storytelling through visual media has the power to captivate and inspire audiences in profound ways. We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?

One of the most significant lessons I had to unlearn was the idea that I needed to conform to societal norms and suppress my true personality and creativity in order to succeed. From a young age, I was repeatedly told to be “normal” and to pursue a conventional 9 to 5 job, rather than embracing my passions and unique perspective on the world.

The backstory to this lesson is deeply rooted in societal expectations and the fear of deviating from the status quo. Growing up, I often found myself at odds with the traditional path laid out before me. While others encouraged me to follow a safe and predictable career trajectory, I felt a burning desire to express myself creatively and pursue my true passions in the media and entertainment industry.

Despite the pressure to conform, I couldn’t ignore the voice inside me urging me to break free from the constraints of societal norms and embrace my authentic self. It wasn’t easy, and there were moments of doubt and uncertainty along the way. However, I ultimately realized that stifling my creativity and suppressing my true identity would only lead to a life of unfulfilled potential and regret.

So, I made the conscious decision to unlearn the notion that I needed to be “normal” and instead embraced my individuality, creativity, and passion for storytelling. I refused to let fear dictate my path and instead leaned into my strengths, trusting that staying true to myself would lead to greater fulfillment and success in the long run.

It was a transformative journey of self-discovery and empowerment, but one that has ultimately allowed me to pursue my true passions with unwavering determination and authenticity. Today, I am grateful for the lessons learned and the courage to unlearn the limiting beliefs that once held me back. Embracing my true self has been the key to unlocking my full potential and living a life filled with purpose and passion.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?

Funding my content creator journey has undoubtedly been one of the most challenging aspects of my entrepreneurial path. Unlike traditional business ventures with tangible products or services, the currency of content creation is often creativity, vision, and sheer determination. For me, embarking on this journey meant taking a leap of faith into the unknown, armed with little more than a dream and an unwavering resolve to see it through.

The initial stages of funding my business were marked by uncertainty and adversity. Without the luxury of substantial financial backing or institutional support, I found myself navigating a landscape fraught with obstacles and setbacks. From purchasing equipment to investing in marketing and promotional efforts, every step forward required careful consideration and resourcefulness.

One of the greatest difficulties I faced was the lack of external assistance or guidance. Unlike more traditional industries where funding and mentorship opportunities may be readily available, the world of content creation often demands a DIY approach. I found myself wearing multiple hats – from producer to marketer to financier – as I worked tirelessly to bring my vision to life.

However, amidst the challenges and the uncertainty, there was also a sense of liberation and empowerment. By taking ownership of my journey and refusing to be deterred by the obstacles in my path, I discovered a newfound sense of resilience and resourcefulness within myself. I learned to embrace the journey, embracing the highs and lows as integral parts of the creative process.

Through perseverance and sheer determination, I pieced together the initial capital needed to kickstart my content creator journey. Whether it was through personal savings, freelance gigs, or the generosity of supportive friends and family, every dollar invested was a testament to my unwavering belief in the power of storytelling and the pursuit of a dream.
