We recently connected with Evan Jones and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Evan, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I’ve recently been focused on honing in on my craft. Learning about and being more deeply in touch with my materials and focusing on my technique and how it applies to my subject matter.
Evan, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I can’t recall a time I didn’t want to be an artist. I never really got into it since it’s always been what I wanted to do. The only thing I’ve had to navigate is what my path looks like as an artist, which is always changing, as it does for many artists. I’m most proud of how I’ve developed my work and ideas over time, and my main focus is to continue to hone and perfect my work and ideas. That’s the pursuit that keeps me making work.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
For a painter such as myself, the best way for society to support us is to buy our work. It’s really that simple.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My main mission is to become the best painter that I can be. That is to say, I dont aim to become the greatest technician or who can paint the most “real” looking image, but to develop my painting technique and ideas as far as my mind and abilities allow. I believe that will be a lifelong pursuit.
