We recently connected with Eva Savageau and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Eva, thanks for joining us today. What were some of the most unexpected problems you’ve faced in your business and how did you resolve those issues?
As a pain specialist and business owner, it’s not easy when unexpected problems or issues arise. I experienced an extreme one. It happened back when I decided to open my own practice, I was driving on the freeway in my small sports car and was rear-ended by a Ford F150. The accident tore my left rotator cuff. I had to have surgery, but after the surgery I developed Adhesive Capsulitis AKA frozen Shoulder. I was in an extreme amount of constant pain, had absolutely no range of motion in my left arm and sleepless nights from the pain. It not only took a physical toll on me, but an emotional one as well. I was out of work in my profession for an entire year! I did get a part-time job working at State Farm, and while I wasn’t working I researched as much as I could about how to build my own website, how to start a pain specialty practice and everything else in-between.
That year taught me so much, not just about how to start my own practice, but I personally know first hand what severe chronic pain feels like. I know how much it effects the body and mind, and the emotional toll it takes just to get through the day.
Looking back now, it was something I had to experience in order to be a better Pain Specialist with even more understanding and compassion for everyone who walks through my door. I can truly relate to what people in pain are going through, and how it feels to be desperate for hope.
That was one of the best unexpected problems I have had to face during my time as a business owner, and I wouldn’t take it back for anything.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers?
Absolutely, I’ll explain how I became a pain specialist, a description of my pain treatments and what sets me apart in the pain industry. Being in the Pain Specialty industry is truly an art. The way I came about getting into this industry is purely credited to my anatomy instructor in Massage School back in 2003. None other than the brilliant W.D. Peter Lane. He was my anatomy, physiology and pathology instructor, and Director of the NeuroMuscular Therapy Center of New Mexico. He taught me the most valuable tools I needed in order to have a successful practice and gave me the inspiration to do it. He taught me that chronic and acute pain treatments are not about treating the symptoms, putting a band aid on the problem or finding temporary fixes. To have successful treatments, it is becoming a muscle and nerve detective, using the power of prayer and finding the root cause of the pain, whether it be physical or emotional. Peter Lane personally certified me as a NeuroMuscular Therapist. He was and will always be the inspiration behind my career path.
My practice, NeuroMuscular Pain and Wellness Center, specializes in treatments of both chronic and acute pain through advanced NeuroMuscular Therapy and CranioSacral Therapy.
NeuroMuscular Therapy is a highly specialized type of soft tissue therapy. It is designed to balance the Central Nervous System with the structure and form of the Musculoskeletal system. NeuroMuscular Therapy relieves pain and returns injured tissues to normal function, naturally bringing the body back into alignment. It utilizes specific, targeted soft tissue treatment and addresses the release of tissues layer by layer, superficial to deep, treating origins and insertions as well as the belly of the muscles, stimulating the body to heal on its own and eliminate the causes of most muscular pain. It addresses postural and muscular imbalances, nerve entrapment, ischemia trigger points and chronic/acute pain. It can provide long-term pain relief where other approaches have failed.
CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle, light touch therapy that facilitates profound physical and emotional changes in the patient by actually re-setting the Nervous System. It is subtle palpating body movements that accentuate and coincide with the CranioSacral pumping action of the cerebral spinal fluid resulting in improved functioning of the brain and spinal cord and resets the Nervous System which decreases the stimuli to overstimulated nerves. The studies from CranioSacral Therapy show profound results in improved functioning of all the major systems of the body, relaxation of traumatized muscles and organs, more appropriate alignment of the skeletal frame, dissipates the negative effects of prolonged stress and brain fog, and releases accumulated mental/emotional trauma.
I believe that what sets me apart from others is that I can relate to the pain that my patients are feeling, and for each individual who comes in for a treatment, I start the session with a prayer of healing and guidance. I am also one of the few specialists in my field who holds the title as a Certified NeuroMuscular Therapist as well as CranioSacral Therapist. It requires an extensive amount of advanced anatomy and medical education, and together these treatments are life changing!
When I treat a patient with pain, I don’t believe in treating symptoms. A person can go just about anywhere to treat symptoms and unfortunately have very temporary relief, if any. My main focus is getting to the cause of the patients chronic or acute pain as well as re-setting the nervous system, so that they can live a purposeful, joyful and healthy life again.
I have people from not just Arizona, but all over the United States as well as from other countries and of all ages who have come for my treatments. I treat a variety of chronic and acute pain from chronic migraines, to neck pain, back pain, sciatica, post spinal fusions, rotator cuff issues, TBI’s, PTSD and so much more!. I have been blessed with a very busy practice and will return the blessings with doing everything I can to help each and every individual who walks through my door seeking pain relief.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I believe that what has helped me build my reputation within the Pain Specialty industry, is my genuine compassion for people. Everyone who comes in to see me has a story of how they got to where they are, and I genuinely care about each of their stories. I don’t try to rush my patients out, I take the time to listen to them and really hear them. They are trusting me with not only their physical pain, but their emotional pain as well, and that means so much to me. I want my patients to know that I’m not only there to give them NeuroMuscular or CranioSacral Treatments, but I am also there to listen to them and give them hope.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of new clients is definitely word of mouth first and second from spinal doctor referrals all from hearing their patient’s testimonials who have come to see me.
