We were lucky to catch up with Eva García Luna recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Eva thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to start by getting your thoughts on what you are seeing as some the biggest trends emerging in your industry.
At this time in the entertainment industry, social media is taking a very important role, nowadays it is important to pay attention to your craft, but also to your social media. I found this difficult to accept at first, I wasn’t really into social media, but I had to learn the new game and adapt. In acting these days, more and more casting directors are asking you for your numbers or you can see more social media influencers taking on acting roles.
And in music, as an independent artist, social media is actually very useful, because now you can promote your music just on social media and get a huge audience.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Eva García Luna, singer, actress and dancer. I am originally from Durango, Mexico. I studied a degree in Communication Sciences at Tec de Monterrey and after finishing I went to the city of Los Angeles to study acting at the Lee Strasberg Institute, one of the most recognized acting schools worldwide where artists like Lady Gaga , Angelina Jolie, Al Pacino to name a few studied and where I also started doing musical theater and singing.
Since 2010, I have developed a large part of my career in Los Angeles. After finishing my studies, I applied for visa 01, which is a work visa for people with extraordinary abilities, one of the most difficult to obtain, which is only obtained with merits and achievements in your career.
I have been in different productions that have been awarded at different film festivals, including the most important film festival in the world in Cannes, France. I won first place in the best monologue contest for the Mexican embassy in Los Angels. and I have been worthy of many recognitions from the city of Los Angeles and the state of California for enriching Latin culture in that region.
I also studied Music Business at New York University and currently as a singer and songwriter I am a voting member of the “Latin Grammys” and a member of the non-profit association ” She Is The Music” for women who work in the music industry.
I speak and sing in 4 languages Spanish, English, French and Italian and I have lived in several countries around the world in search of enriching my knowledge in the performing arts.
I am currently visiting Durango, I have reconnected with my roots and we are about to release a short film called “The Other” filmed in Durango and directed by the award-winning director Pamela Velazquez where I participate as a co-star. My latest single “Cielito Lindo” is also about to be released. Which will be available on digital platforms on September 14, to celebrate the Mexican national month.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
As I mentioned before at the beginning, it was difficult to adapt and I didn’t really want to do it, but I realized how important it is for my industry today, so I had to start taking it seriously and I’m becoming more familiar with it. with the platforms and their algorithms.
The truth is that the only way to learn is to try, I publish as frequently as possible and I am always analyzing trends and statistics of my posts and reels to see which ones work and at what time it is best to publish.
For me, social media is not a hobby, it’s a job. Right now I’m most familiar with Instagram where I have over 30K and Facebook with 14K and TikTok I just started paying more attention to it a couple of months ago and it’s growing.
It’s hard to keep up with all the social media out there. I recommend that you focus more on one where you feel you understand the game the most and then do the others as well, but again paying more attention to one, in my case this is Instagram.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding thing about being an artist is the positive messages you can give, the positive energy. Sometimes life is hard and it’s nice to know that you can give something positive to someone who needs it. I have bad days too and I also need those positive messages, so for me to make you feel better with my art and creative work is very rewarding, because I know how difficult life can be.
