We caught up with the brilliant and insightful EV Talesman a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
EV , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I went to college for video editing and have done various forms of art my entire life. After school, it was difficult to find a job in the film industry in Florida. I bounced around doing various office jobs, until one day I had enough and decided I would pursue a career in tattooing. I had worked in tattoo shops during this whole time and was always fascinated by the art and history of tattooing. At the time (well over ten years ago) I did not think I’d actually be able to make a living doing what I loved. My best friend was a tattooer and offered me the opportunity of a life time, so I quit my job, broke my lease and moved from south Florida to Panama City, FL to pursue this career. It was a very scary time because I gave up a comfortable life for the unknown. It was the best decision I’ve ever made.
EV , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Well, I just provided the back story so I’ll skip ahead a bit. I’ve been tattooing professionally for a little over ten years. I specialize in traditional, bold styles. I love the classic styles of tattooing that will last a lifetime. I want my clients to have a positive experience and have something they will love forever.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Support your local artists. Support giving children the options to learn art in school and help local business owners stay in business during these tough times.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Seeing the look on peoples faces when they love what I’ve done for them. Sometimes the simplest things can mean so much to people. Making people happy makes me happy and is what I love the most about tattooing. You’re changing someone’s life forever. It’s the only art that will always be with them.
