We were lucky to catch up with Eunice Weckesser recently and have shared our conversation below.
Eunice , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
I’ve been a creative soul and a fashion and art enthusiast for as long as I can remember. Growing up in an immigrant family, stability was the name of the game, and pursuing a career in my true passions seemed like a far-off dream. My parents had a pretty big say in what I did as a teenager and young adult, and they didn’t quite see my love for fashion and art as a viable path.
So, I took the practical route and became a nurse, spending the last 15 years caring for patients. Nursing taught me that life is short and precious. Along the way, I also discovered a knack for home decor. I blended my fashion and art vibes into interior design, and it was a blast. Then, someone suggested I start my own business.
I was scared at first and thought I couldn’t go solo. So, I teamed up with a partner to create a business that dabbled in wardrobe styling and interior decorating. But our visions didn’t align. While she was all about getting any client she could, I wanted to make sure our clients stood out and weren’t just another cookie-cutter design.
After some time, we decided to part ways. A few months later, while daydreaming in my office, the idea for “Crown the Cool” was born. In between my nursing gig and growing up, I got hitched and had two awesome boys. That’s when I discovered that both of my boys have autism.
This revelation was a game-changer for me. I realized it’s totally cool to be different, and it’s okay to embrace your authentic self. I had never known anyone on the spectrum, but I soon discovered the superpowers my kids had: they could be themselves without caring what others thought. That inspired me to kickstart my own business on my terms, and finally, I’m living life as the real me.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am the owner and founder of Crown the Cool Studios. A mom of 2 kids on the spectrum, nurse for 14 years, and always a lover of design and fashion. I wanted to pursue my love of design and stand out from the rest.Crown the cool is not your typical interior design company. Guided by the mantra, “I am not for everyone, and neither are you,” we embrace an unapologetically unique approach to fashion-forward design. Our journey is marked by a commitment to standing out and creating spaces that leave an indelible mark, ensuring that both our designs and our clients feel anything but ordinary. We believe that life – and where you live it – should be deeply felt and highly vibrational. We’re all about setting the stage for experiencing those crowning moments and really owning it. Our work is loud and empowering – filled with confidence and an undeniably infectious energy.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Reflecting on my journey, I find myself yearning for the self-assurance I now possess. I remember the days when societal norms dictated a 9-5 work routine, and the thought of being my own boss felt like a distant dream. It’s the freedom from the constraints of society’s rigid culture that I find so liberating. Today, as I embark on my own business venture, I feel like I’m not only breaking free from the mold but also growing into my true potential and self. This journey has been a remarkable evolution toward embracing my authentic self while striving to bring joy and inspiration to others.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The driving force behind Crown the Cool goes beyond creating exceptional spaces; it’s about igniting the spark of inspiration in others, motivating them to pursue their passions and live their best lives. My aspiration is for both my followers and clients to grasp the concept that with unwavering determination, relentless passion, and hard work, anything the heart desires can be achieved. My ambition is not just to be recognized as an interior design firm but to become one of the most influential inspirations for individuals on their own unique journeys. While looking bad ass while doing so.
