We recently connected with Eunice Martinez and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Eunice, thanks for joining us today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
Absolutely. Thanks to my parents I learned a young age that prayer is powerful. I grew up in a household where praying was a must before eating a meal, starting the day, ending the day and so on. The fact that my parents instilled that in me at a young age has helped me so much today in life. Which also leads to my photo business. Before starting a session I sit in my car and I pray for a couple of minutes to thank God for the opportunity to shoot pictures for my clients. I’ve been in a couple of situations with clients where I don’t know what to do and before I call a friend or tell my family what’s going on I pray first. I like to keep God in the center of my business and when you let Him fight for your battles you will see the end result of victory. I truly thank my parents for that. I believe one of my greatest joys in life is to have the kind of parents that I do. Their unending support and fierce confidence in me somehow helped me do things I thought I never could. Everything I am is due to my parents. Gracias mami y papi.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi! I’m Eunice Martinez. I am a lifestyle + wedding photographer in the DFW area. I love to capture the genuine connection between people, traveling for unique celebrations and delivering legacy and memories to my clients. For me photography is about the real and the artful. The romantic and the simple. About uniqueness, fun and unexpectedness. I got into the photography industry by just going for it. Shoutout to my dad for buying my first camera back in 2012! I didn’t really start my photography business until 2015. I provide grad/senior sessions, family, branding, birthdays, maternity, events, engagements, and weddings.
Beside being a photographer, I’m also an elementary proud educator at Irving ISD. It’s truly a privilege to give back to my community where I grew up. More often than not, I’m either at church, found at home editing galleries, eating all the pantry snacks, or playing with my fur baby Choco.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Being authentic and consistency. Truth, respect, and mutual trust is very important to me and my photo business. Many of my clients have been coming to me for a very long time. I think showing up in a reliable, consistent, and authentic way has built trust.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
People who work outside photography that say, “Wow! Your camera takes nice pictures.” really gets to me. My camera doesn’t take nice pictures, I do. Of course it’s not the camera that takes great photos, any more than it’s the oven that makes a great dessert. It’s all about what you know. You have to determine just the right type and direction of light, position your models to take advantage of that light and utilize the correct camera settings (aperture, ISO, etc). And that’s just the first half! After the photo session there is still processing to be done such as editing.
