We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Eunice Adeosun a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Eunice, thanks for joining us today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
I remember it was my freshman year of high school (2021), in the height of the Corona Virus. My mom was getting too worried for the fact that I was always home 24/7. She then brought up the idea of me learning makeup from my aunt who was a makeup artist. I stayed with my aunt for a couple weeks to learn but, I would take whatever I saw her do on her client’s face, then do that same thing on my face. I later just stopped going over to her because my young mind felt like I wasn’t learning anything. Fast-forward to the Thanksgiving of 2022, I brought a couple of my aunts together and did their makeup. The makeup, although horrible made me feel proud of myself. I later started practicing continuously on my friends till I had my signature makeup process. By this time, I started getting into wigs. Wigs were an alternative to my natural hair. My natural hair was always hard to maintain and take care of. Getting my hair done was a stressful process that made me frustrated enough to cut off; which even till now is still cut off. I finally opened an Instagram page, posted my beginner work, and moved on from there. The year after that was really dry, I had about 2 clients in the span of one whole year. Like a lot of people would’ve, this made me give up becoming a makeup artist, and wig stylist. I later picked it back up summer of 2023, wholeheartedly devoting myself to my craft, and later gained more attention from people outside my immediate family, and friends.

Eunice, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Many know me as “Eunice”, or “Nissy”. I’m the founder and CEO of NissyDollz. I created this business with two goals in mind; to provide affordable beauty services that are tailored to fit each individual, and to have a safe space for those who weren’t
represented In the beauty community. Whether you’re here for a flawless makeup look or a perfectly installed wig, I believe everyone deserves to feel confident and beautiful without breaking the bank. At NissyDollz, i’m focused on making sure my clients leave feeling like the best version of themselves.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn refusing a service I wasn’t confident in. In my starting days as a makeup artist, and hairstylist, I always accepted every service because all that mattered to me at that time was having a large client, and getting paid. However, I later realized this wasn’t what I wanted to be known for, or what my brand stands for.

Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?
I was 14 when I started learning the skills I have now. I couldn’t get a part time job, so I had to rely on my parents to get me the things I needed. The moment I was able to get a part-time job, I budgeted my money and bought the products I wanted and needed.
