We recently connected with Eujay Doe and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Eujay, thanks for joining us today. We’ve love to hear an interesting investment story – what was one of the best or worst investments you’ve made? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
In the early days of my journey, I often heard the advice to “invest in your skill sets,” but I didn’t fully grasp its importance. At the time, I was passionate about photography and content creation, but I wasn’t making the most out of my potential. I was using free resources and tools, thinking that passion alone would carry me to success.
It wasn’t until I decided to invest in myself that things began to change. I enrolled in photography classes, which helped me understand the technical aspects of the craft and allowed me to explore my creative vision more deeply. This investment in education was a game-changer. My skills improved significantly, and I began to gain confidence in my skill and see photography as not just a hobby but a potential career path.
Additionally, I stopped relying solely on free presets and packs from creators. While these freebies were helpful initially, they were limiting my growth since everyone had access to the same items. I started investing in better equipment and premium editing tools. This shift not only enhanced the quality of my work but also gave me the confidence to experiment and develop my unique style.
One of the most valuable lessons I learned from this experience is that passion needs to be matched with effort and investment. By putting time and money into honing my skills, I was able to create content that resonated more deeply with myself and opened up new opportunities for collaborations with artists and brands.
Looking back, the decision to invest in my education and tools was the best investment I’ve made in my career. It wasn’t just about buying better equipment, it was about committing to my growth and taking my passion seriously. This experience taught me that sometimes, the best way to achieve your goals is to invest in yourself and your skills.
Eujay, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a Liberian American creative agent with a deep passion for creating art through my camera. My love for cinema initially drew me into this world, inspiring me to make films and capture beautiful memories that I can share with the people I care about. In addition to my work in videography, I have a profound interest in nature and fitness, which often influences the themes and aesthetics of my projects.
Currently, I’m in a season of experimentation, taking on every project possible to refine my skills and discover my unique style. This journey of exploration is crucial for my growth as an artist. I’m passionate about creating candid, natural content that captures genuine moments, especially those shared with friends and family. These moments are like a digital diary for me—personal snapshots of life’s simple joys, which I love to share online. It’s less about creating content for others and more about preserving memories that mean the most to me. However, knowing that others enjoy and connect with my work is a rewarding bonus.
What sets me apart is my dedication to authenticity. I aim to replicate the spontaneous and genuine interactions that often go undocumented. My work isn’t just about creating aesthetically pleasing images; it’s about telling real stories and capturing the essence of the moment. Whether it’s a film, a series of photographs, or a social media post, I strive to evoke the warmth and joy of genuine connections.
As I continue to grow and evolve, I’m most proud of the genuine, heartfelt content I’ve been able to create. I want my clients and followers to know that my work is a reflection of my passion for life and the beauty of everyday moments. My brand is all about celebrating the candid, unfiltered side of life, and I hope to continue sharing this perspective with the world.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the sense of community. The creative world is filled with fascinating people and diverse mediums to explore, and I never tire of experiencing the countless forms of art that others produce. Art is a unique expression of each individual’s voice, making every piece special and distinct.
One of the things I love most about this community is the encouragement and support we give each other. It’s a space where artists can connect, share ideas, and uplift one another, creating a positive and inspiring environment. I enjoy trying my hand at different forms of art, not only to broaden my skill set but also to gain a deeper appreciation for the work of other artists. This exploration helps me understand the nuances and challenges of different mediums, fostering a greater respect for the diverse voices in our community.
In the end, it’s this camaraderie and mutual appreciation that make being a creative so fulfilling. It’s not just about creating art; it’s about being part of a larger, supportive network that celebrates individuality and creativity.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My primary goal in my creative journey is to prove to myself and others that it’s possible to make a living from art and creative direction. Growing up, I’ve often heard comments like ‘get a real job’ or ‘go back to school; this doesn’t make any money,’ not just from strangers but even from family. I know I’m not alone in this; I’m certain that many artists, perhaps even the majority, have faced similar doubts. I want to demonstrate that you can be both successful and fulfilled by pursuing your passion. It’s not just about proving something to myself; it’s about inspiring others who have faced similar discouragement. I want to show that it’s entirely possible to be happy with your career and to earn a living doing what you love.
