Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Euan Leslie. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Euan thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I had a few experiences early on where my eyes opened to the reality of this being a living and not just a hobbie… I got my first paid gig when I was 8. 15 pound sterling in cash on a New Year’s Eve celebration in Isle of Skye Scotland playing a snare and hi hat with my cousin to punters.
I started winning different competitions and realized that maybe I have a gift for music/drumming…
some doors started opening where I was getting calls to travel and develop my craft at the same time.
It basically started out as an organic pure love for music playing day in day out growing up and turned into oh maybe this could be a career.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got into music at an early age. I fell in love with drumming and was inspired by all the great drummers of the past . Studying them on YouTube or going to watch them live and then trying to replicate them … I was immersed in lots of styles of music and found myself in a lot of different musical situations growing up which looking back has shaped how I play and think about music.
In terms of products/services and creative works, I produce & compose my own music which you can hear on all the platforms. I have more coming in the future. In the past I’ve offered clients the opportunity to send their personal tracks to me to lay /record drums on with my personal setup I have along with teaching here and there too…
I always have many creative projects on the go at once and I believe this is one thing that has shaped my style of playing and how I approach my craft as I am constantly learning and being inspired by life , people and the variety of artistic opportunities that come my way.
I suppose I’m most proud of the people that I’ve come to know through music/the arts, the lessons I’ve learned and the lifelong friendships that I cherish.
I would want people to know that I do what I do because I love it first and that I hope that comes through my craft and inspires or encourages someone in someway… I believe music is a gift and also an incredibly powerful tool that can bring Joy, healing, touch and change lives.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I want to continue to create/perform/record music with incredible people and musicians from around the world. The mission would be one to inspire, bring joy, bring healing ,bring people together, make people dance etc…
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
There is no perfect in this world. I’ve been learning this as I go on where I’ve had to make some creative decisions where you kind of have to just surrender and let go of the outcome sometimes. I always have had a passion for my craft and try to do whatever I do to the best of my abilities but I feel the beauty of life and creative endeavors are often found in the imperfections, wrong notes, mistakes etc…
not to say to not strive for excellence but be open to bumps along the way and not getting too caught up in the outcome.
