Etta, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.

I started self publishing because I had written this manuscript and I thought it was such a great story but when I went and looked at the requirements that publishing companies wanted for their stories mine didn’t fit. I felt like an outcast, or like maybe my idea for my manuscript wasn’t good enough to be considered urban fiction. I decided I didn’t want to be boxed in and I wanted my version of urban fiction published anyway so I researched and found out I could self publish through Amazon KDP. I was so happy their was a platform that I could publish in my writing style in raw form.

Etta, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

Writing has always been my passion, I started writing poems in middle school and then transitioned into short stories. I’m high school I wrote my 1st book but never published it. As I became an adult I had to put writing on the back burner to start adulting but my urge to write was still there. Being an Author just feels so natural to me, I can pick a topic and put pen to paper and just go. I also love reading and I feel like there are so many benefits from picking up a book and gaining knowledge or seeing someone else’s perspective through their writing. I hope with my publishing company I can help other writers fuel their passions and get their works out there. I also hope to spread the message of creative writing as a tool for stress relief or depression or even just for fun to our youth and the importance of literacy!

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?

Yes! I read lots of books on various topics but Get Good With Money by Tiffany Aliche really helped me understand the importance of finance and how important getting out of debt is . Also Full Time Author by Creative Writing Academy really helped me put my dreams of being solely an author into play.

How’d you think through whether to sell directly on your own site or through a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc.

I sell my books on Amazon and I felt this was the only way to get my work published being a new author with a very different writing style. One of the pros os that millions of people shop on Amazon and your work can be read all over the World. A con is that there are thousands of other authors selling their books and bringing yours to the forefront can be challenging!
