We were lucky to catch up with Ethony Dawn recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ethony, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
My parents gave me the freedom to explore my creativity from a young age. They encouraged me to try a wide range of hobbies, sports, and activities, which helped me build confidence, discover my interests, and learn through experience what wasn’t for me. They never pressured me into a particular career path or imposed rigid expectations.
They also fostered an open-minded perspective by teaching me to see people for who they truly are, beyond labels or appearances. Instead of enforcing specific religious beliefs, they encouraged me to think for myself and approach the world with curiosity and understanding.
Most importantly, they instilled in me the power of fun and laughter, showing me that joy and playfulness are just as important as hard work and responsibility. Of course, they weren’t perfect, but they did a lot right.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My journey with Tarot began over 25 years ago and has been a profound part of my life ever since. I’ve published two tarot books, with a third to be released in winter 2025 with Llewellyn Worldwide. 2019, I’ve independently published five Tarot decks and five Oracle decks, each designed to inspire and guide users on their spiritual paths. As the headmistress of the TarotReadersAcademy.com I’ve had the privilege of teaching and mentoring students worldwide, sharing my passion and knowledge of Tarot.
What sets my work apart is a blend of extensive experience, a deep-seated passion for the craft, and a commitment to fostering a supportive community. I strive to make Tarot accessible and relatable, demystifying its practices while honoring its rich traditions. My modern and inclusive approach aims to resonate with a diverse audience seeking spiritual growth and self-discovery.
I’m particularly proud of the vibrant community that has blossomed around my offerings. Witnessing individuals connect, learn, and evolve together is incredibly fulfilling. For potential clients and students, my brand is built on authenticity, inclusivity, and a genuine desire to empower others. Whether you’re seeking guidance, education, or tools to aid your spiritual journey, my work is dedicated to supporting you every step of the way. I love what I do and am grateful for the opportunity to be of service to spirit and the people I work with.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
My journey in building a social media audience began with a deep passion for Tarot and a desire to share this passion with a broader community. Recognizing the importance of authenticity, I focused on creating content that genuinely reflected my experiences and insights. I wanted to be part of the community; I built everything from the ground up. I was a tarot enthusiast first, then a tarot reader, then an author, teacher, and creator. This resonated with many, and I’m still part of this community.
Consistency played a pivotal role in my growth. Regularly posting valuable content, such as Tarot spreads, instructional videos, and personal reflections. I also embraced collaboration, engaging in blog swaps and podcasts with fellow practitioners, which expanded my reach and introduced my work to new audiences.
Some key advice if you’re looking to build a social media following is to focus on mastering a few social media platforms rather than spreading yourself too thin. This allows for deeper engagement and quality content creation. Vitally, remember, you don’t own the social media platforms you’re on. Your mailing list is essential to partner with a solid social media plan and consistent content.
Social media trends evolve rapidly. Stay informed and be willing to adapt your strategies to remain relevant and practical. You’ll never stop learning if you’re working online; it means you can connect with people worldwide but also have to stay informed about social media trends and platforms. Stay true to yourself and consistently provide value; you’ll cultivate a meaningful and engaged community.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
Creativity isn’t a one-size-fits-all process. Some artists and creators have trained themselves to create daily, treating their craft like a disciplined practice. Others experience creativity in waves—some days, they’re in perfect flow, while on others, nothing comes at all. Both approaches are valid, and every creative person connects with their muse in their own way.
It’s important to be mindful and supportive of the creatives in your life and team. In a world increasingly dominated by AI-generated content, artists and creators face new challenges in an already undervalued industry. Creativity isn’t just a hobby or a luxury—it’s a skill, a discipline, and a contribution that shapes culture and society.
So, respect and support the creatives around you. Value their work, honor their process, and most importantly, pay them. Art isn’t disposable, and neither are the people who make it.
