We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ethan Smith. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ethan below.
Ethan, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
When I was in 3rd grade I performed at my elementry schools talent show. They called it “Tiptons Got Talent”. I performed a song I wrote called the Atoka School Blues. It was a simple blues song my dad helped me write. I had a little piano solo and everything. We ended up winning the contest and after that moment something clicked and I knew I wanted to write and perform music for the rest of my life.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi! My name is Ethan Smith, I am a singer, songwriter, producer, and recording artist based in Memphis, TN.
At the moment I am pursing my music career as a songwriter and recording artist. I am currently attending The University of Memphis for my vocal music education degree and plan on teaching others to pay it forward to the next generation of young musicians. I also teach voice, guitar, piano, and saxophone lessons at Memphis Music Academy as well.
I also gig around town and I’ve played at Lafayette’s Music Room, Tin Roof on Beale Street, Loflin Yard and many other venues. For more information you can check out my social media’s @ethansmithsmusic on all platforms and my website https://ethansmith3701.wixsite.com/website
To stream my original music you can find me on Spotify, Apple Music, Youtube Music and more. I just released a new single called “Summer Feeling” and I have a couple more songs coming in the next couple of months.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Absolutely, “How to Make it in the New Music Business” by Ari Herstand has been such an asset. It has changed my veiw in the music business. Also, just working with the reaources I have and not worrying about having the best gear. Most of my music was produced on GarageBand at my home studio in my room.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding thing about being an artist and creator is the impact I can have on others. I aspire to convey a sense of authenticity and relatablity with my audience.
