We recently connected with ET DEAUX and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, ET thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
It all started with the spread of COVID. I was running a restaurant as part owner and spending 16 hours a day on location.
When the spread of COVID shut us and many other businesses down I had an option to either find new work or take the risk and start doing what I love.
I made a decision after leaving the restaurant that I would NEVER go back to the kitchen. At least not until I accomplished my personal goals as an artist.
Fast forward to present day and I am currently Grammy nominated and producing music for artists and television and film.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I was born and raised in New Orleans where we eat sleep and breathe music and culture.
I was always interested in music from a young age but I decided to take up athletics in my early years. I was a top athlete and doing pretty well until I got in some minor trouble in high school. I didn’t agree with the politics surrounding the sports programs and I decided to take a new path.
I started making my own music around the age of 15/16 years old and after years of trying to follow a “stable” path (i went to nursing school for a few years) I decided to take the risk and go to school for music.
Getting a degree from Loyola didn’t do much for me as far as employment but it did introduce me to a network of people that rain valuable in my life today.
I currently make my own original music and also am disciplined in photography and videography.
I have always had a mission to make the world a better place and I realized I can do that by following my passion and using my gifts in music to spread a positive message.
Have you ever had to pivot?
There are a couple that stick out but mainly the two biggest pivots I made in my career are the decision to leave nursing school, and then the decision to push full time into my music and art career.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A major lesson that I had to unlearn is less of a lesson and more of a lifestyle change.
I learned to stop looking at people for what they could do for me and more so started to focus on what I can do for others.
This lead me to meeting people that helped change the course of my career.
