We were lucky to catch up with Estil Wallace recently and have shared our conversation below.
Estil, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
Yes, we are an abstinence-based drug & alcohol treatment center. Meaning, we don’t use synthetic opioids or any other “mind-altering” substances in the long term treatment for substance use disorder.
Estil, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have been in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction for over 17 years currently. I sobered up when I was in my late twenties so I very much “grew-up” in recovery. I learned basic life skills and began my career while re-learning to live my life without mind altering substances in my first few years of recovery. As an entrepreneur I’ve worked on several projects where I learned a lot about business principles like team assemblage and marketing, but when the prospect of founding an addiction treatment center came along I was moved in a way that I hadn’t been before. Founding Cornerstone Healing Center and growing it to where it is today has been an inspiring project where my team and I are rewarded deeply.
Cornerstone Healing Center’s mission is to help people broken by addiction to heal, mind, body and spirit. By overlapping science with spirituality we create an environment where a seemingly miraculous healing event, sufficient to overcome addition can happen rapidly. This has been the core focus of our work here. While it may seem complicated I hope to explain it in plain language. We help our clients to reignite the fire of their human spirit so they can truly re-create their lives in such a way that they never feel the need to use drugs or alcohol again.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Our unwavering commitment to abstinence and life long recovery. There are a lot of treatment options out there and there is a lot to consider. We aren’t a treatment center that can treat anyone for anything. We specialize in helping people who are truly ready to change their lives and live drug free work through the difficult early days and heavy lifting of psychotherapy while remaining completely abstinent form mind altering drugs including opioid-based medications.
If I were to say we have a “secret sauce” it would be 3 things:
1. Abstinence based recovery
2. Length of stay
3. 12-step community integration.
The stance we’ve taken and approach to recovery has garnered us a strong reputation in the Arizona treatment market.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Thats a tough question. When the shutdowns began in early 2020 at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic there was both internal fear and external pressure to close our doors or limit the number of people we could help. Many other treatment centers shut down partially or shuttered permanently during that time. While staying within our states suggested guidelines we actually expanded our reach effectively quadrupling our bed count over the last two years as well as opening our doors to 12-step meetings that had been shut out of other facilities.
Like so many organizations, we weren’t exactly sure what to do but we sensed intuitively that turning away people looking for help with mental health and substance use disorders was going to do more harm than good.
