We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Esther Sakyi. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Esther below.
Esther, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on is still in progress: Dreamer’s Connect, an interview series featuring creatives in my area. I initiated this series because I recognized the presence of incredible and talented individuals around me who harbored unexplored passions due to fear or limited resources. I decided to sit down and interview those who were actively pursuing their dreams, with the hope of inspiring not only myself but also those in my community. Currently, Dream Team is filming the 4th season of Dreamer’s Connect.
Everything I do with my company, Dream Team International, holds great significance and is deeply cherished because it showcases the stories of people who resemble me—individuals who are building their lives from scratch. I firmly believe that representation is paramount. If someone from the same neighborhood, town, or school can achieve their goals, why can’t I?

Esther, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a Ghanaian American currently residing in Virginia. I was born in Ghana and spent my first 11 years there before moving to the US. My drive largely stems from my African heritage. I am driven to tell and highlight the stories of African creatives because, during my upbringing, the narratives surrounding Africans were predominantly negative. Africa is a continent brimming with immense talent that the world has only recently begun to discover. This inspired me to establish Dream Team International (DTI), initially focusing on creatives in the Diaspora and extending back to the motherland. DTI’s mission is to consistently share the remarkable stories of African creatives and entrepreneurs who are making strides in their communities. Far too long, our stories have been narrated by individuals outside our community, but with Dream Team International, I am creating a platform for us to tell our own stories, by us and for us. I firmly believe it is crucial to witness individuals who resemble us, speak like us, and share similar backgrounds achieve extraordinary feats. This serves as the most powerful motivation.
When individuals explore our YouTube channel, website, or social media platforms, my aim is for them to walk away feeling encouraged. I want them to realize that if someone who looks like them can relentlessly pursue their dreams and achieve success, they can do the same.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
The most effective way to support the creatives you believe in is by investing in them. This can be accomplished through various means: attending their events, sharing their work on social media, introducing them to other talented individuals you know, or simply offering words of encouragement to keep them motivated. No form of support is insignificant. Rest assured, it is always noticed and appreciated.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most fulfilling aspect of being a creative is witnessing the transformation of your idea from a mere thought in your mind to a tangible reality. Equally gratifying is observing how your creation inspires others.
