Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Esther Mckenzie. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Esther thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
I hope to leave a legacy of defying commitment, thats pushes the pursuit of passion. I want my bloodline to remember me as someone who was consistent, and focused, and hell-bent on not repeating the past of the generations before her. Based on what I’ve seen growing up, what I’ve experienced within my lifetime, and also what I have noticed, I have made the decision, that I will not fall in the same cycle, and that I will succeed. Passion conquers all. Once you have that, you’re set.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Growing up, I’ve always been a fan of creativity. I’ve always indulged in visual arts, writing, poetry, drama, music, anything that feeds my soul. As I got older, I drifted from the passions that I once pursued, and started to accept things as a survival tactic, then living life itself.
Covid changed a lot of things, as this was where I decided to branch outs with my first business idea. My first business, was crafts, where I created waist beads, bracelets, anklets, necklaces, you name it. Then, I got bold and decided to try something else, or should I say something simultaneously. This was where my interest in skin care came in, and I launched my beer oil brand. Then I even got a bolder, and started two other businesses, which was selling organic, honey, and my launching my photography brand.
As things progressed, and business fluctuated, I started to withdraw from the concepts that had materialized, and paid more attention to just having a regular 9-to-5. It’s most recently, that I had an epiphany, in regards to claiming my purpose, and not letting the regularities of life itself dictate the path that I should be on.
With that said, currently, I am embedded in the Content Creating. I’m so fascinated with producing experiences, showing things from my perspective, providing Intel on things that persons may not necessarily know about. I want to be back person that someone can come to with any question regarding trouble in my island of Jamaica, for now, and I’m more than capable to provide that information that will satisfy their inquiries.
Currently, I’m also a social media manager and content writer. Also dabbling in Virtual Assistance, and do plan on getting back on my photography game. I will be branching out into the tourism sector, more offering my services as a tour guide, in time to come as well.
I am my brand, my name is my brand: Essie. And I will be using this brand suppress you, my fully pledge entrepreneurial path as a full-time Travel Content Creator.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal, as of this year, is to be fully operational on my own. No more need for a 9-to-5, not that I am bashing 9 to 5, but as I am a creative, freedom means the most to me.
Starting this year, that’s actually my word for the year: freedom. When you think about it, what does freedom really mean to you? I know that for me, it means being able to move when I need to be able to travel consistently., Being able to produce absolutely breathtaking content, not just in videos, but in static posts, as well, maybe even starting a blog towards my journey.
I know a lot of people start their journey and get discouraged when things aren’t going as planned, but my name is to ensure that before the end of this year, this be in my third decade on this earth, I will fully commit to my passions, my dreams, my goals, my aspirations and anything but I’ve put my mind to.
I can, and I will achieve all, and that’s my driving force on this creative journey.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
And this is where I explain why I don’t bash a 9 to 5. I 9 to 5 is definitely some thing that I recommend for anyone starting out in this life. Whilst it may not be your ideal job, it’s still something that can help you along your path, especially if you plan to be an entrepreneur.
