We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Estella Kirk a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Estella, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I’ve always done music since I was a little girl, but I actually started out doing pop music. It wasn’t until I was 13 years old that I felt God tugging at my heart to change directions. I began wondering why I was doing music I thought shouldn’t I be doing this for God? So at 13 I created my first EP called Brightside ever since then I have always known that I was supposed to create music to bring people closer to God.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Estella Kirk. I am a pop, Christian singer songwriter from a small town in Oklahoma. I began singing when I was just seven years old and started playing guitar at the age of 12 from an early age. I knew that I was supposed to do music, but I wasn’t quite sure, what that meant I knew that I wanted to honor God and I had always grown up in the church singing in my youth group so I knew that God was calling me to Christian music.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I remember being so stuck on doing pop music I had never even thought about doing something else everyone had always told me that when I was singing Christian music “something was different” I didn’t quite understand what they meant, but when I asked God why my singing was so much better when I wasn’t singing pop music he gave me the EP “brightside” the songs written on that EP as well as my latest album “Running on Low” all tell a story of how God is always with us even when we feel like we are lost or on empty and can’t go any longer.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A lesson that I’ve had to unlearn is that you don’t always have to be perfect. I feel like with social media we all can hold our self to this perfect standard that is an unattainable ,especially as teenagers. We are constantly on our phones seeing the highlight reel of other people it’s so easy to get lost and compare yourself, but something I’ve always tried to remember is that there is only one me and that is something so special!
