We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Estefania De Regil a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Estefania thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
In 2016 I had the opportunity to experience my first luxury picnic in Central Park in New York. I remember loving absolutely everything about it, the weather, the scenery, the food, the pillows, all of it. My background is in luxury travel planning & hospitality. And I thought to myself, this is such a fun idea I would love to do this for a living.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Estefania but I go by Stef. I own The Party Co. STL. We are a latina mom owned small business and service the greater St. Louis area. My background is in luxury travel & hospitality. Like many others in my field, when the pandemic hit, we saw ourselves shifting towards other ventures. I decided to create a job I loved. I always enjoyed party planning, hosting dinner parties, and coming up with fun ideas to celebrate special occasions. And so, Picnic House STL was born. Initially focusing exclusively on luxury picnics in 2021, as our business grew, I saw a need for a rebrand. In the past year we had been offering full service party planning and renamed the company to better fit our needs and appeal to a different clientele. We do it all, from initimate date night picnics, to tablescaping for bridal showers, and kid friendly extravaganzas. We are the theme experts for any party.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
We love the STL small business community. We have found that the most effective way to growing our clientele is by word of mouth. Offering excellent, trusthworthy, and friendly service. As well as collaborating with other vendors for our “add-on” services. We pride ourselves in supporting other local companies, to elevate our party experience. We offer from beautiful balloon garlands, to delicious charcuterie, or perfectly delicate macarons
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
The customer is always right. In our particular field that is a lesson I had to unlearn. The customer has to trust that we are the experts and we know what is best. May it be for a specific color scheme or the dangers of setting up in severe weather. We do this every week and we know what will and wont work.
