Estefania , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
Initially one of my older sister came up with the idea about doing dulce enchilados, but she wanted to try to do something different. It was my other older sisters 27th birthday, and we thought it would be cool to make a gummy cake using dulces enchilados since everyone in my family likes them. So on her birthday instead of making or buying a cake, we made the number 27 out of dulce enchilados and we all really enjoyed it, my sister the one with the birthday loved the idea of the cake since she didn’t like regular cakes. So then I decided to try making the cakes myself, and did a cake for my little cousins graduation, especially because she loved dulce enchilados and would purchase them from the stores. So I looked up a graduation cap picture online and started to create the design for the cake once it was done I took to her house and she was obsessed! So from there I got the idea, that I should sell dulce enchilados and also do gummy cakes all thanks to my sisters.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Estefania. I am the owner of Picagummies. I make dulce enchilados and gummy cakes. I started making gummy cakes for fun for my family, then started creating my recipe to make our taste unique from other businesses of dulces enchilados. I create my own chili powder and coat customers favorite candies with chamoy and chili powder. I have a variety of candies for customers to choose and they are also welcomed to request candies that are not in the menu that they love. One of the things that sets me apart from the other dulces enchilados are the gummy cakes. Where I can personalize or create cakes for all types of events. I really enjoy when customers message me, with ideas for their events. Ive had the pleasure of making gummy cakes, for baby showers, gender reveals, engagements, promposals, birthday parties, house warming, and holidays. I am most proud of all the growth my business has accomplished in such little time, and appreciative of everyone trusting me with their special orders.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
the mist effective strategy for growing my clientele has been doing pop ups around Houston and word of mouth. Doing pop ups helps me meet different clients from different areas that have not tried my dulces enchilados. Word of mouth has helped a lot because friends, family and clients continue to refer Picagummies to others by brining candies to their events, or showing my social media pages.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building my audience on social media has not been as easy but thankfully social media like Facebook and instagram have sponsorships where one can pay to promote their product to reach more clientele. Also, when customers, friends or family share the page that helps bring more audience to the social media pages. In the future I am hoping I can create more content for my social media pages to promote more of my candies.
