We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Esteban Ujueta a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Esteban, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
I own a recording studio that I named Good Tone Studios. My recording studio started as a dream for a place where artists and musicians could feel at home. I put a lot of thought into the vision I had for the studio and I wanted the name to encompass the good vibes I wanted people to experience when recording music. I chose Good Tone Studios as the name because it represents good music, good sounds, good experiences, and good vibes for clients. I take pride that every artist and musician that has worked out of Good Tone Studios has always said the same thing – they love the vibe and that they feel good working on their music here.
Esteban, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a LoFi and HipHop producer based out of Miami, Florida. I’ve been working on music for over 20 years. One of my favorite producers of all time is J-Dilla and his music has been inspirational to how I developed my unique smooth style of beats. I released my latest single recently called Island Time featuring Bernz and Omniscient, and it’s been receiving a positive reception, which I’m excited about. In addition to being a music producer, I am also the owner of Good Tone Studios. Opening up my recording studio has been one of my greatest accomplishments. It has not been an easy journey to get to where I am now in my professional career, but I’ve learned many lessons along the way with the biggest one being to have patience and not give up on my goals.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a music producer is getting to collaborate and work with other musicians and artists. The process of creating a song from start to finish is elaborate, yet fun. It always starts with an idea for a song, and then it takes off into building and refining the song until completion. Listening to a finished project after working on it for a period of time is the best reward as a music producer.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
When I started making music at a young age, I learned by trial and error. In essence, I was a self-taught recording engineer working from my home studio. At a certain point, I decided to go back to school to learn further and take my skills to a professional level. I realized while in school that I had to unlearn a lot of my technical processes to be able to learn the right ways of engineering. I didn’t have the proper foundations in place because I was self-taught when it came down to the technical aspects of audio recording. It was an educational journey that turned me into a professional and has been invaluable to my career.
