Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Essie Castro. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Essie, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?

A huge risk I took was deciding to not work for anyone again & becoming a full time hair braider during a hectic time, the beginning of Covid. Even though my skills weren’t all the way there & I knew absolutely nothing about being a business owner, I still took a leap of faith because I’ve never believer in “waiting for the right moment”. Waiting only pushes back your success & possibly buries it all together. Taking this risk was the best decision I’ve ever done.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

I began braiding around 8 years old however I never imagined me making a living from it. After dropping out of college, I started doing hair whenever I would get booked (which was rarely) but with consistency & taking each appointment as a lesson, I became a full time, full booked stylist in less than 2 years.

I now service over 175 women & counting yearly & so provide services & hair growth products that promote healthy hair growth & bring out the beauty in all my clients!

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?

Last year, I was brainstorming ways to make additional passive income in my field & decided to launch my own hair growth line! I connected with a chemist because I was not interested in going the private label route & we came up with my own formulation. I absolutely love the results my hair growth oil & mist have given my clients & I can’t wait for it to reach more customers!

When I was 16, I met my best friend at my very first job, Zaxbys. I did not know at the time that she would also become someone who I’d bounce ideas, strategies, create business plans with & also keep each other focused & motivated. Together we’ve reached goals that never would have been possible working a 9-5 & we now have bigger goals to reach in the next 5 years!
