We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Essence Smith a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Essence, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Alright, so we’d love to hear about how you got your first client or customer. What’s the story?
So I got my first client from a family friend. I did my cousin’s wedding just because helping stepping in and just making sure everything was all nice and neat for her and by doing that that is when I got my first client where I did a wedding for about a people and it was so amazing to be able to do a wedding for 150 people in coordinate and get them down to Al. I didn’t have my prices then but the lady bless me and told me what I should do my prices, and my cousin sent me some information on going to school to do it so I did what I had to do. I went to class got a certificate, and that is when I became back about six years ago where I became a wedding coordinator and event planner and I love it every sense.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
For those that don’t know who I am I am Essence Smith with Events By Monet. I love what I do I got in the business about six years ago. I love doing the weddings, events of baby showers, birthday parties, divorce parties any type of event that needs a coordinator needs a planner I am there helping and also getting everything together as much as I can. I offer day of coordinator, also I asked him for planning Parsha planning coordinator. I’ve also have an event planning package and I also do custom T-shirt as well as of a bridal party. Is it brought up groomsmen I can do T-shirts for you I could do shot glasses for you I can do the bridal shoes for you any and everything that I can do to help the bride out I can do it was that me apart from any other wedding coordinator and being planner is that my passion I put God first and all that I do I also have reasonable prices and I make sure my customer service is over the top. I also make sure that I go above and beyond for all of my clients no matter what no matter what I can do I make sure I get it done, and I can execute the plan for them. I am most proud that I’ve been in a business for six years I have been through the good bad, and the ugly I have been to a lot of ups and downs in the mist of my business. People try to tear me apart people try to discredit my business, but I kept going. I kept pushing, and I didn’t allow those folks to mess up what God has given me. My main goal for 2023 is that have specials? I am currently I’m really special if you book now for next year is a 50% deposit and I’m also taking $50 off of the total price. I’m also the one in custom bags, custom shirts for the bride as well so I am doing doing some deals next year. .
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
How I find my business who is I want a full-time job consistently to still work a full-time job putting money in my savings account here in there every two weeks to build my business. I use my savings to build my business and build my clientele and try to get my stuff out there for marketing, so I use my own money to build my business
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
How about my audience on social media was kind of had some help with the person that help me out. Tell me what I need to do on the context just keep posting each and every day continue to do different hashtags and try to post like once a day, and then also try to do a real or TikTok to build your audience. Any advice I will give somebody that starting to build is trying to talk to a young person. They know all the hashtags. All the TikTok had to go viral how to do this how to do that and just hear them out on different aspects they can help you build your clientele.
