We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Espr a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Espr, appreciate you joining us today. Can you tell us about a time that your work has been misunderstood? Why do you think it happened and did any interesting insights emerge from the experience?
I create all types of content on social media, I don’t fit in just one category. I upload on all different social media platforms, Tik Tok, YouTube, Instagram, Threads, Pinterest, and Lemon8. I express myself through all of my content. I’m working on attaining the social media career I have in mind, where I can financially take care of my family, (and my 40ish stray cats). Being a 31 year old woman and Mom, I’m expected to act, speak, dress, create content and present myself in a certain way. I’m expected to be a mom, and nothing else… I’ve had random people on the internet and acquaintances, criticize my content. I have learned to accept that not everyone will be “okay” with any or all, of my content. To some, my photography is “too provocative” and “too revealing”, but they have no idea about everything I went through to get to this point of feeling confident. As Kylie Jenner once stated, “You can be sexy and still be a badass Mom”. I love all of my content, I put in a lot of work in my photography and editing my makeup videos. I love showing off my rave bras that I create! I really enjoy creating my twerking content, I absolutely love dancing. I’m just being myself and I will never change that, no matter how much hate or criticism I get. When I first began in 2016 to create content and post on social media, I would be hesitant to express myself. But as I grew, I decided that as long as I am my authentic self and love what I do, that’s the only thing that matters. I’m not only a mom, I am a Human Being, who has skills and interests. A human being who loves to express herself through her content on social media. I love who I have become and how free I now feel. My advice to anyone who is working on a social media career is, just be yourself. Don’t be afraid to post whatever content you create. There might be people who don’t approve of your content, but there will also be people who absolutely love and support you.
Espr, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Espr! Im a 31 year old latina, living in Colorful Colorado. I was born and raised here. I’m the proud daughter of my immigrant parents. Soy muy orgullosa de ser Mexicana. I am the mother of two amazing little humans, my boys, Adi and Gianni. I’m also the cat mom of 40ish stray cats, those are my babies. I feel so connected to my strays, like we were always meant to cross paths. I’m a HUGE animal lover, I have one dog, Luna and 2 cats,Nanas & Panchito. (we rescued Nanas when she was 3 weeks old). I create a variety of content on social media. I do makeup, skincare, hair tutorials, photography, exercise routines, DIY’s, remolding, my stray cats, twerking videos, twerking tutorials, rave bras, storytimes, homeschooling my kids and so much more. I say this a lot, but I cant be placed into just 1 category. I really enjoy sharing my life online. I’ve connected and met so many people through social media. I’ve met some truly talented makeup artists through TikTok, like “@fruit__loopsss”, I call her the Graphic liner Queen, her skills are incredible. & “@beeveemakeup”, shes a professional makeup artist and an absolute sweetheart, she was the 1st one to ever donate to feed my stray babies. Through Instagram I’ve connected with thousands of cat lovers. I posted a video of the 1 year anniversary of feeding my stray cats and that video went semi viral. So many people have shared my video, followed me and have purchased food and supplies for my strays. I keep every single note that comes with the Amazon gifts. They love my strays so much and are helping me tremendously to feed and care for them. Some people have commented how my Instagram video has encouraged them to start feeding stray cats. I’ve connected with people through Instagram and Tik Tok, who have lost their siblings. I share a lot of parts of my life, including the loss of my brothers. My little brother Louis, was the victim of a hit and run, by a car that was street racing, in 2013. He was 17 years old. My older brother Junior, passed in 2015. He disappeared after an argument with his “wife”, his body was found 9 days later.. I am very open about the loss of my brothers and the immense grief, so others will reach out to me through social media after they lose a sibling too. It’s a heartbreaking way to connect, but that’s the thing, sometimes we connect with others because they understand a pain, that cant be understood, unless you’ve experienced it too. My variety of social media content, has connected me with so many people.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Expressing myself! I love how I can express myself in so many ways, whether its through my photography or any other content I post online. I can be my authentic self and connect with others who love and support my content. If I find a new interest, I can express myself through a new way.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My family, my cats and my career goals are my driving force. I would love to retire my parents and financially care for them. I want to give my kids everything they want. I want to relocate all of my stray cats, onto my home and give them the loving, secure life, that they deserve. My social media career is the career that will help me achieve all of my goals. It’s a career where I can express myself and share my many skills. It’s a career where I can connect and help others. I promise my cats every night when I go feed them, that I will completely change their lives when my social media career takes off, and I cant break a promise to my cats. (LOL)
