We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Esha Thakrar a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Esha thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Looking back, what’s an important lesson you learned at a prior job?
When it comes to applying for jobs, there is usually a wide array of applications, a pool of talented individuals who go through a process before receiving success. It is surprising how no one talks about how the failure rates are way higher than success rates. Measuring these rates, are the employers. It has been a common misconception that the most suitable candidate is the one who holds ample prior experience in the field, and has performed brilliantly in academics. One important lesson that I learned about the hiring process, which now helps me as a business owner, is giving equal/more importance to the personality traits, values, ethics, and aura the candidate holds. To have an employee who is extremely talented in the field, but holds no work ethics in terms of conversing with the employer/employees, is like feeding the highest quality meat to a vegetarian. It is simply useless. To hire someone who understands ethical values, is eager to learn, and knows how to communicate politely are integral factors that must be put into practice by employers across the world for an increment in productivity levels.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Having graduated in International Marketing from King’s College London, I have now joined my family business. Thakrar Infotrendz is a service-providing organization based off in Mumbai, India, which aims to deliver premium-quality IT products (laptops, desktops, servers, printers), both refurbished and new, on rental as well as buying basis, to organisations across the world. The business started in the year 1998, and has boomed over the years with changes in the economic landscape of the country. My main work as a businesswoman, is to incorporate my marketing skills and sell our services to an even larger audience, and make them understand how renting out these products would provide them with sufficient cost-effective solutions, combined with as-good-as new products. We hold strong relations with clients such as Tata, Reliance, Volkswagen, Vodafone, and several others corporations who believe in our brand mantra. A huge team of dedicated and talented technicians work day and night to ensure that the clients face a seamless experience with us. Our repair team is always just a call away in case of any product malfunction, to fix it in no time. Having acquired some international exposure with Dubai and Singapore, we aim to spread out our services to the USA and UK for the following year. We stay true to our tagline, “Technologically Yours”.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
To build a reputation within the market, Thakrar Infotrendz believes in the saying that goes, “Customers are the boss”. We believe in holding strong communication, that involves understanding exactly what the customer requires, and delivering our services at the highest quality possible to ensure increasing satisfaction rates. This has helped us immensely with our customer retention rates. Alongside, over the years, customers have realised the importance of renting out refurbished equipment on rental basis as it aids them to cut significant costs that they would have actually incurred, having bought new equipment from a retailer/manufacturer.
For every entrepreneur, this is a must to know: To tap into the market, you need to find a gap in the market. We found the gap and have since been successful in delivering our message to the customers.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
I have always emphasised on the importance of Networking. The best source for us to gain new clients, has been attending social events, talking to people, and getting our name to be a part of their database if they ever require anything. Networking may not help you in the present, but it may widely help you in the future. In a digital world, where almost everything works through scrolling down an instagram reel or checking out a website ad, the importance of word-of-mouth and networking should not be blurred out. The correct source of advertising, online sources, and conversational skills can make you network with thousands of people across the world.
