We were lucky to catch up with Esai Moreno recently and have shared our conversation below.
Esai, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Owning a business isn’t always glamorous and so most business owners we’ve connected with have shared that on tough days they sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have just had a regular job instead of all the responsibility of running a business. Have you ever felt that way?
I am relatively happy as a business owner. I think that has a lot to do with the environment we have created for ourselves here at No Solutions Productions. I have a great team keeping this business on course for success and we have a family bond that makes work seem less like work!
Of course working a regular job is easier then trying to run a business. With a regular job you have a sense of security, and with running a business, especially a start up, you have 10 times more responsibilities and people that are counting on you for their livelihood. Not knocking the regular job worker because some people can be content with that feeling of security and not want anything more. However, I am one of the people in this world that wants more and am willing to be in a more stressful situation to try to further my professional career.
I would tell the people that want to create their own business that it will be the furthest thing from easy, and that you should not measure the scale of your happiness while trying to run a business because it will be an anchor that slows you down. You can measure your happiness after you achieved the goals you have set for yourself!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My business started out as a podcast on YouTube in 2020, No Solutions Podcast. A few episodes in, we started getting feedback on the channel, and people were loving what we were producing! This led to us sitting down and talking about opening our own studio where we can produce high quality content for other people. We came to the conclusion that we can’t afford to open a studio at that point in our life. We continued to do our podcast for the next year and once we got to episode 50, we took a break. This break was a bad idea because we lost our traction and the drive to want to do the podcast started to fade.
My co host lost interest and moved on and my audio engineer was holding on by a thread. We ended up still doing the podcast but it went from weekly episodes to once a month, sometimes every other. At this point, it was the end of 2021, I had a good night job where I was making a good living and was content for the time being. Towards the start of 2022 I was putting my effort back in to podcasting and we even started producing another podcast for a business partner of mine, Chuck Doyle. His podcast is called “The First Cup KC”.
Around the end of January I started coming up with a business plan that I could shop around to investors. I had a total of about 4 meetings and all of them went well, I got some good feedback, and ultimately I was able to get an investor on board! I started laying down all the groundwork getting all the licenses and other logistics taken care of. Then we were finally able to open No Solutions Productions.
We started out just wanting to produce podcast and shows for other people. This game plan did not go as good as I had hoped so we switched up and started to producing our own shows. Now we have a very fast growing network of podcast and shows that we are currently working on.
We pride ourselves on our ability to make podcasting as fun as possible for whoever is hosting it! Podcasting can take hours to not only to record but tp edit and post! We take on that burden so podcasters can have the best experience possible!
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
The best advice I have for people trying to manage a team is don’t be an ass. When you are fortunate enough to have a strong team to help build your dreams, take advantage of that! When you have a team, each person should act as resource for the other, and respect each other and the work they do for company. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses and as the leader if you can identify those and place them in the right position for success as team you’ll never lose. If done right your team should look forward to coming into work everyday!
Do you have multiple revenue streams – if so, can you talk to us about those streams and how your developed them?
I consider the 3 branches of No Solutions all different revenue streams. For one as you have read already we have podcast production, but we also have a videography and photography department that are all working simultaneously!
