Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Errol “Ajanie” Williams. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Errol “Ajanie”, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
My creative spirit started when I was child growing up on the beautiful island of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. Very often my brothers and I were at my grandmother’s home and there is where I would learn how to be super creative. As a kid I loved to draw, create art, and make music. My grandmother’s home was like a tropical adventure and had everything I needed. From roosters in the front yard, to Iguanas in her backyard, all types of fruit and tropical trees were in her garden. So, I would draw every chance that I could, because her home made my imagination run wild! Either I was drawing my favorite superhero from a comic, or I was play fighting dragons in outer space. As I became a young man, I made up mind I was going to Art school in Florida to pursue my dreams of becoming a cartoonist. While in Art school I became extremely good at making music and putting sound effects behind my cartoons and illustrations. I became so good at creating music that I started to produce and composing for local talents around Central Florida and throughout the Caribbean.
Errol “Ajanie”, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
While in Art School, I produced songs for local in Central Flordia, some who achieved awards through out the Caribbean. This really inspired me to make more music as my local buzz around Florida grew. When I graduated Art school in 2009, I was a full-fledged local producer making money from music production, organizing studio sessions, to putting on local shows from Central Florida to South Florida. In 2010 I decided to start a music label named King Dreamz Entertainment.
The hit singles I produced ultimately got the attention of Grammy Award-winning Reggae Artists Bennie Man and Bounty Killer. In 2011 I produced the collaborated Reggae / Dancehall Album titled 45 Riddim with Reggae stars “Bennie Man, Turbulence, veteran acts like Joesy Wales and more”. In 2012 I followed that with another collaborated Reggae / Dancehall Album titled the Body Bag Riddim with International Reggae stars “Sizzla, Bounty Killer, Elephant Man, Capleton, and much more. By 2013 and 2014 my label mates and I had started to collaborate with industry Hip-Hop artists, Latin Reggaeton artists, and many more musicians. With my fusion of Caribbean sounds, distinctive melodies, and resilient work ethic my musical production became a good force to be reckoned with till today.
Fast forward to now, I just released a kids book that I wrote and illustrated titled ‘Baby Amani’s Caribbean Counting Adventure. I’ve used the succes of music to cross over to my original first passion, which is illustration and story telling.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Yes!! There is a particular goal driving my creative journey. Now after all these years of creating and producing music, I got back to my Art roots by releasing a kids book that I wrote and illustrated titled ‘Baby Amani’s Caribbean Counting Adventure”. I want to have my children’s book available in all elementary schools and book stores across the world. That way it can teach young kids ages 2 to 8 about education learning from a Caribbean culture narrative. From learning how to count, alaphabet, and geography. We can create new fans, bring new joy and love for these kids’ book like how my music has done over the years.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
When the 2020 / 2021 Covid pandemic arrived it slowed down a lot of in person projects but we are resilient group. Social Media helped significantly to play a big role in how we promote and communicate with our clients and growing fan base. We started to do promo videos for Instagram and Facebook. We had graphic design Ads made to also grab viewers attention. Some quick advice to keeping your audience or fan base engaged and growing are; you have to continue to create content (promo video, photos with your brand, enganging stories of business growth via video or live streaming) that people would be anticipating.
