We were lucky to catch up with Erniel Chacon recently and have shared our conversation below.
Erniel , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I think since I was a child. First, when I studied piano at age 9 and then when I decided to study visual art. I grew up in a cultural family, my grandfather was an actor and my grandmother taught handcrafts in a high school. Also I saw and I learn from my father some skills in his metalwork shop that were formative in my development as a artistic person. These situations made me interested in the creative/artistic world.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Originally I was trained in Visual Arts at ISA Cuba, specializing in sculpture. In 2019, I opened EC Studio Corp a Miami sculptural and functional metal fabrication company. I love merging art and function into one. I like to empower clients to make beautiful things that inspire their daily life. I love to work with architects, interior designers, and contractors to coordinate the specialized needs of each project.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I believe when I can help a client to level up his idea or when I create something spontaneous that solves any problem of design or craft. For me this is the most relevant aspect to being a creative person to bring life to things..

Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
I think it is a “ new” tool as video art was in its time. Many artists use NFTs but I don’t see interesting content in this digital art. Topics are simple instead of creative or imaginative artwork. I think it is trendy but I don’t see it as progress for an artist.
