We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ernesto Paez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ernesto below.
Ernesto, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I grew up around musicians. My father was in bands and at the very young age of five, I was banging on drums and strumming on guitars. I knew then that music would be a huge part of my life forever.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started my first band when I was twelve years old with some neighborhood kids. Initially, I wanted to play drums but slowly transitioned to guitar. I found a passion for it right away because I could write my own songs. I was never interested in learning cover songs. I also never took lessons.
After years of playing in bands locally in South Florida, I tried out for a band that was on the verge of getting a record deal. After learning a few songs, I got the gig and went on to sign a record contract with that band. We immediately started touring the country and had two songs chart on the active Billboard rock charts.
After a few years, that band broke up and I started playing in other bands in my area, as well as in other states. It wasn’t until 2016 that I formed my current band with my wife. The band is called Modern Mimes, and we’ve been recording music and touring extensively. The band has put out three full length albums and are working on a fourth at the moment.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The reward for me is being able to enjoy the process of achieving the ultimate goal. There are many obstacles to overcome in the music industry and at times, things can become very difficult. At the end of the day, its the passion that drives me and the reward is being able to be a part of something creative.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Aside from being able to make a living doing what I love, the mission is also to continue growing artistically. There really is no end to an artists ability to learn and create.
