We were lucky to catch up with Ernest Magero recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ernest , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
It all started back in 2014 when my friend told me about a program called FL Studio. I downloaded it and didnt do much with it. I always had passion for music and one day I felt like trying to make a beat. I just openned it and slapped together the worst beat of all time and from that point I really got obssesed. From then I always tried to make a new beat everyday and went to youtube to learn from watching tutorials. At the time there wasnt that many tutorials on there but I used the little I could found and just kept practicing till I reached a certain level where my beats werent so trash.
After reaching this point my beats werent bad but they werent good either and sounded nothing near to what the industry standard production did. I couldnt put my finger on what I was doing wrong. At this period of my journey I wasnt working on music everyday and was kinda slacking.
It wasnt until 2017 when I decided I want to take it serious and start putting my beats out there to get exposure. This led me to working on my craft everday and with this I started seeing a lot of progress in my mastering of my craft.
Then in late 2019 I started uploading my beats to youtube and this got me some exposure and feedback from anyone else that wasnt my best friend. Its feedback that really helped me master production cause everytime I would put out a beat, I would get feedback on what needed adjusting and this really helped me.
Also there were other Youtube producers with better production than mine on the site, so I strived to meet the standard which eventually led to me mastering my craft
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am Magero Ernest. A 24 year young enterpreneur based in Hungary. I produce dark cinematic beats for established and upcoming artists from all over the world. In 2024 a lot of people can make beats and a beat isnt hard to come by. I would say there is a meta when it comes to most productions. What sets me apart is I try to make very unique beats that are far from the meta. I believe a lot of artists are tired of having a generic sound and are trying to catch there audiences ear with something they haven’t heard before. When they need that, they find me.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part of everything for me is having a creative idea and bringing it to life. Being creative all the time isnt easy and I used to have a habit of sticking to my old ways and doing what is comfortable instead of pushing my creativeness. I found that when I push myself creativitely and actually come up with something worthwile, It is always very rewarding
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
As I mentioned earlier I upload my beats to youtube as a way of finding clients and marketing myself. And if anyone knows anything about the youtube algorithm is it needs resilience. In 2021 I saw a lot of success on the platform and as everything goes, It dosent last forever.
I started to see decline after that and I felt like I had to give up on it. But I kept going and pushed and in 2023 I had an even bigger run.
Reslience and consistency is really the key to all this
