We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Erinn Connolly a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Erinn, appreciate you joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
When clients ask how I started this business 3 years ago, I like to share the story of organizing being a way of life since childhood. How I was once paid my best friend’s allowance because I organized her bedroom at a sleepover. I was the school girl with color coded folders and highlighters.
However, I truly started this business for my mental health. After the loss of my father in 2020, I spent the majority of the early pandemic days sorting through years of belongings-tossing, donating, archiving, filing, displaying. Most moms know the feeling of losing yourself after having babies, but the pandemic brought that feeling back. Being homebound and furloughed from my non-profit career, finding a purpose and outlet became necessary for my inner peace. After realizing how I could pair my talent for envisioning a space plan with my experience in organizing, downsizing, and moving (we made 4 moves in the span of 7 years) I knew I could share this gift with others who felt weighed down by their belongings.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
SORT + STORE provides a wide variety of services, including in-home organizing, relocation services, and routine maintenance sessions. We also design custom closets, pantries, garage systems, and utility spaces by partnering with vendors to make sure the space is tailor made for the client’s personal storage needs. We can tackle specific spaces throughout the home that are causing homeowners stress and transform them in a single session. Our team arrives with all necessary organization products, facilitates donations, hauls away trash, or schedules junk collection for any unwanted items. We create organizational systems that are unique to each client’s needs are stylish and functional.
Our biggest goal with every project is making sure the spaces are efficient and easy to maintain, so homeowners can take pride in their homes and get back time to spend with their families.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Our business has been mostly built on word of mouth referrals. We find our client’s have been so thrilled with how their spaces turned out and how easy they are to maintain, that they routinely have us back to complete more spaces or share with their family and neighbors, so they can share in the life changing experience.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
To sell the benefits of home organization, having a visual outlet for Before and After transformations is critical. We utilize social media like Instagram and Facebook, to share with our potential clients the services we can provide and how we can create order from chaos within a few hours. We believe being able to show our market how we control the clutter and create unique solutions highlights what makes our business unique and a worthwhile investment.
