Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Erin Wiseman. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Erin, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
While some would say photography is just clicking a button, I would say I agree; with the added pressed at the right moment. What’s that moment like? How can you capture a story with a stand still, silent image you can feel? That’s just it. In the quiet of a moment being shared with a friend, a laugh with your partner, the rush of love filled in a room full of people you care for. That’s worth it all, that’s a photo you can imagine yourself in. I yearn for finding those moments. I never want to tell you how to create your story. Yes, of course I’ll help with any times where posing is necessary, but other than that, I am a fly on the wall documenting the most precious day yet.
Erin, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I first fell in love with Photography when I got my first disposable camera on my 5th birthday. Since I was such a young age, I always thought of photography as just being a hobby. I soon after got better cameras, a better eye, and a better sense of what I like, taking photos of. Fast-forward to college, I was always the person my friends would send photos to for a quick edit and I was pretty much the team photographer with helping pose. Again, all of this was just a hobby to me while I was studying exercise science in college. I graduate, get married and have two babies so I obviously become obsessed with taking photos of them. Friends on Facebook started asking me to take photos of their families so I thought “heck, maybe I can make a job out of this?” This is my first time ever thinking my hobby, my passion can bring me success.
I think what sets me apart from other photographers in this industry is I started out with a love for Photography to have something to remember, not to make money.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Wow, social media. You hear all the time to be successful, you need to follow the algorithm. Well, the algorithm is way too hard to follow, I kinda gave up, but in the most beautiful way. I don’t care what social media tells me I need to put on the Internet, I am here to serve my followers. I want to put out content that not only helps as my client or fellow coworker, but brings A sense of togetherness, belonging, you are not alone.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Being my most authentic self has been the most effective strategy for growing my clientele. I am the same person on social media as I am with my best friend of 16 years on our coffee shop date. Professional, sure! I just know that having a photographer with this large camera in your face can be intimidating, so me keeping the comfortability with my client is my top priority. As well as communication. I want to know whatever I can do to make you have the best experience possible. Not every strategy is cookie cutter because everyone is different.
