We were lucky to catch up with Erin Wells recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Erin, thanks for joining us today. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.

I cook and create with humor, the world can be a dark place so I enjoy bringing humor to social media and my clients. you will leave my page or my table happy from food and a good time!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

Hi, I am Erin Wells BKA That Chocolate Vegan. I have been vegan since 2016 and it has literally changed my life! People were curious as to how I was gonna to eat now with this perceived limited diet and boy did I show them. I started my YouTube channel in 2017, catered a wedding 2019, Ran a restaurant in 2020, Cooked for multiple private dinners in 2021, Started Dining Vegan Tours in 2022, and looking forward to working with several brands in 2023! I have changed so many peoples opinions on what vegan food taste like and looking forward to continuously showing the world (especially people of color) that plants can be delicious!

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?

For me it was getting into social media, I came from YouTube and to this day prioritize my community there. But im no fool so I had to get with my phone being in my hand 24/7. I for one am not a fan of a recipe in 60 secs because it creates unrealistic expectations of how cooking truly goes. As this became mandatory for growth I got on board and haven’t looked back since.

Lets Talk about the Lovely BFOREAL, this is my business partner in Dining Vegan. I have known Britt for several years now and after watching her YouTube channel back in 2018 decided I wanted to be her friend. lol. I had already been doing private dinners for over a year and I love hosting so when I brought her the idea of us touring our food together she quickly agreed! We are learning so much together and looking forward to adding more cities to the tour this year!
